B'lore: Umashree inaugurates Mobile Konkani Bazaar

Bangalore, May 26: Mobile Konkani Bazaar, an ambitious novel project of Karnataka State Konkani Sahitya Academy, was formally declared open by the State’s Kannada and Culture Minister Umashree at the Ravindra Kalakshetra in Bangalore.

''I congratulate the Konkani Academy Chairman Roy Castelino and his team for conceiving and executing this novel and innovative project of Mobile Konkani Bazaar,” the minister said.


The model project undertaken by the Konkani Academy was worth emulation by all other academies to reach the people and take literature to the people, she said.

Dayananda Pai of Century Builders and Konkani community leader said the Konkani Academy’s efforts to reach the people and educate even non-Konkani people about the greatness and richness of the language was laudable and worth emulation.

Shalini Rajneesh, Principal Secretary, Department of Kannada and Culture and Director K A Dayananda took part in the programme.

Beary Academy President B A. Hanif, Tulu Academy President Janaki Brahmavara, and members of the Academy as well as Konkani Academy Chairman Roy Castelino and Registrar Dr Devadas Pai were present on the occasion.

Federation of Konkani Catholic Associations Aida D’Cunha greeted the Konkani Academy Chairman and members for their initiative.
 
The Mobile Konkani Bazaar is aimed at carrying the books published by the Academy as well as other Konkani books and music CDs purchased by the Academy as part of the move to help Konkani writers and musicians to different parts, especially in places having a large Konkani population or when major functions pertaining to the language and culture are being organized. 
The mobile bazaar will have a supervisor and driver. Konkani artiste Wilson Kayyar has depicted pictures of prominent Konkani writers and other leaders on the vehicle.

Konkani Academy member Lawrence D’Souza compered the programme and proposed a vote of thanks.

    congratulations to the Chairman of Konkanni Sahithya Acadamy MR. Roy Castelino for his wonderful step to ute the beautiful idea in which the Konkanni literature will reach to the common reader in a very fast and economical way. Good Luck.
