Mangalore, May 27: A young engineer lost his life in a bike-lorry accident that took place late night on Monday May 26 at Mulky.

The deceased has been identified as Roshan (25), son of Harishchandra Hejamady, DySP of Mangalore fingerprint bureau (FPB).

The accident took place near Bappanadu entrance when a lorry transporting lemons from Bijapur to Mangalore rammed into Roshan's Bullet bike. Due to the impact of the collision, Roshan got thrown on to the road and died of injuries.

Roshan was the elder among the two sons of Harishchandra Hejamady, who resides near Kanchan Ice Plant. Roshan studied at Mulky's Narayana Guru English Medium School and then at Vijaya College. He then completed his engineering from Nitte and till last year worked at Akamai Technologies in Bangalore. Since last August, he was working as a senior engineer with another company in Bangalore.

Roshan had come home on leave. It is learnt that late on Monday night, he was riding with his friend Shravan Kumar from Mangalore to his residence in Hejamady when the accident took place.

Harishchandra's younger son Bhushan is pursuing engineering studies at Nitte.

Mulky police have registered a case.

just now I saw a tragic accident near Kottara Chowki. A bus , coming from mangalore to surathkal side, came at wrong side and looks head on hit to a two wheeler. Not sure, that was a hero honda bike I guess. The rider was on road with out any movement, looks he is spot out.

No doubt the bus was coming on wrong side , as always I see them doing it. but now a young life gone ( I suspect ) because of this bus drivers mistake. Now question is what will happen to this driver for his life time crime. will he be penalized ? or sent to jail with life time imprisonment thinking why he has done this crime and realize what a cost he as well as the bike rider paid for. Please...

As a public responsibility I went to Urvastore police station which was on my way and informed them about this accident. They were not aware of the accident at all until I informed them. Now, I pray this bus driver must be punished for his life time.

These accidents are on the increase for the past several years and unless a strict control is enforced Dakshina Kannada will continue losing precious lives,

It was said earlier the Police Force is understaffed. If this be the case some civilians could be recruited and imparted necessary training and these people could work in conjunction with the Law Enforcement Branch and ensure safety for the people in the areas.

I join others in offering sincere condolences to the family of the deceased.

India is perhaps only country in the world where drivers license is issued without proper training and undeserved and untrained people could get drivers license with bribe, this is root cause of these accident other reasons being drunk driving, lack of sleep while driving, bad condition of vehicles and roads, improper road signs etc etc...

Accidents cannot be stopped without treating root causes...adding more traffic police or MV staff will make no difference.

The suggestion to use civilians for law enforcement in traffic matters is extremely welcome.
    Western countries have this norm.
The trained civilians can ensure adherence to law (license, speed) by individuals, pollution/road worthiness / permit of vehicles and help pedestrians too, to cross and navigate at busy junctions.

Mangalore / suburbs are growing and there is traffic congestion / violation in many places.

Mangalore police, please take this up seriously. I am sure people will volunteer for the training as well as the cost of training.
    We want our youngsters safe.
