Mangalore, May 29: Rakesh Shettigar, who sustained serious injuries in the bike-car accident that took place at Kolnad in Mulky on Wednesday May 28 evening, breathed his last in a hospital in the city on Thursday May 29.

The accident had claimed the life of Rakesh's friend Anish Shetty (18), son of former president of Mulky town panchayat. Anish had died on the spot.

As fate would have it, it was Rakesh's birthday on May 29, and incidentally, he passed away at around 12.30 am, around the time he was born.

Rakesh had just finished his PUC. He was the eldest among the three children of Anand and Pushpa Shettigar, residents of Kolnad. Anand Shettigar resides in Mumbai while Pushpa is a housewife. Their other two children, a boy and a girl, are twins.

The accident occured when a car moving from Mangalore to Mundkur suddenly changed lanes on the highway and rammed head-on into the bike the boys were riding. 

A case has been registered in Mulky police station.

Mangalore, May 28: Yet another accident has claimed the life of a youngster, at Mulky.

Anish Shetty (18), son of former Mulky town panchayat president Shashikant Shetty, died in the accident that occured at Kolnad, Mulky near here on Wednesday May 28 evening.

Anish and his friend Rakesh Shettigar were riding from Mulky to Haleangady when a car moving from Mangalore to Mundkur rammed head-on into their bike.

The impact of the collision was such that Anish died on the spot, while Rakesh sustained serious injuries. Rakesh was rushed to a hospital at Mukka and his condition is said to be critical.

Police said that the accident occured as the car changed lanes all of a sudden and veered over to the right. Work on the highway, specially the divider is going at the spot where the accident took place. It is said that due to the ongoing highway work, commuters are forced to follow new detours every other day, which has led to an increase in accidents.

Anish had just finished his PU studies. He was the younger among Shashikant's two children. He was very good at cricket and used to go for practice every day. On Wednesday, he was returning home with Rakesh after playing cricket, when the accident took place.

Mulky police have registered a case.

    India must give attention about the safety rules for every age of people.in UAE govt is very good following every safety rules from the born to aged people.here us a very good to did driving in a raid, they are first giving attention to construct their road very well.in our India govt should do same like other countries, give attention to road first then avoid accidents, that is good for everybody.before earning name of powerfully country do first good for people, without doing for people anything don't take opportunity to say India is a powerful country.now it is powerless country.do first and say after ,it is good for our Indian people.should be keep every age of people strictly rules if not following then give fines or keep driving licence till clearing their fines.

    Unfortunately, nobody is held responsible for anything in our country. If this was US/UK or Middle East maybe, somebody would have been asked to answer why the work is so shoddy. Anyway, our country we always satisfy ourselves by saying fate.... Too sad.

    I just submitted my comments to Daijiworld on road safety and here is another accident. Whereas I offer my sincere condolences to the members of the bereaved family of the deceased I cannot help stating that the road safety measures should be strictly enforced and people should be instructed at grass-root level to cultivate health driving.

    It is expedient that parents take care to ensure that their children are not provided with powerful two wheelers which they may not be able to control.

    In the United States children get instructions at an early stage on road safety measures and even a child as young as six or seven years exercises caution on his/her own while crossing roads or while going through level crossings.

    It would be a good idea that traffic experts visit schools and instruct the teachers to instruct the young children on the rules of the roads.

Shashiyanna Please accept our heartfelt condolences.may their souls rest in peace.I have lost three of my known persons this week from Mulki area.Both are using most popular brand bikes.Guys please take care while riding modern bikes.It will look sporty but cannot handle proper grip in high speed.Wear helmet for safety.

    Terence u r right now a days children will not go to college without two wheeler if we don't fulfill children demand they act rude and threaten and they even compare with others see Dada his dad is very kind he gave his son motor bike why u can't give ur son ? They don't understand that they don't want to lose their children if u love ur children don't give them two wheeler

    Since the new road work is started on NH66, its almost every day deaths. Ministers are responsible for not taking the accountability of the contractor for not finishing the road and such shabby work.

    First the riders and drivers should learn the basic lane discipline. Mainly provide street lights in highway. Guys whenever u feel to do stunts please use appropriate safety gears to protect yourself though i come from a racing team we make sure that the riders are having basic safety. Guys life is like a wind it will pass by and never take that wind for granted.

    One has to blame the Bike Riders. Recently how many Young Boys died and dying. RTO should ban Bike Riding for certain age limit or implement speed control device on each BIKE.

    Due to the bad road and semi-finished road accidents will occur regularly. Locals should be united to fight against corrupt politicians to get the broad and good road as earliest as possible.
    Either Congress or BJP nobody's are worried for Public. They just need votes to fulfill their dreams, and they don't care our lives.

    no wonder we write so many comments , so many improvements to be done, so many safety measures to be applied... nobody wakes up. RTO, nor the Police, nor the Parents. RTO is silent on all the irregularities observed on the road. over speeding, licence issue, no proper age limits, no other rules followed... nothing they speak about and enjoying the death count. Police, we don't hear any strong sentences to any of the culprits. even in cases of deaths of many innocents because of other culprits who kill them because of over speeding, because of wrong side drives.... no strong sentences to any of the culprits is observed. Parents, parents are happy to give all kind of high end bikes to their children, irrespective whether they are capable of driving them, whether they are following traffic rules... nothing they are bothered about. I see many small youths... may be of high school or early college... they drive two wheelers or cars on road. who get them these vehicles... parents. or if they are taking from others, then also responsibility will be on parents only as they are not aware what their children are in to. But ultimately loosers will be only parents and closed ones. Nobody will be the loosers. So, it's pure responsibility on parents to take care of their children or leave them to end their lives as it's happening since recent days...I could see so many youths lost their lives due to accidents, especially two wheelers. But we , at least few responsibile citizens spare some time to write comments with some recommendations, suggestions and all. Pity on us.

    Youngsters first remove the rear View mirrors..God knows why ?..Then drive recklessly not knowing that Speed Thrills and also Kills !
    Why cant the Police register complaints against the Highway authorities/Contractor for not putting up the Necessary Signboards warning of Diversions etc etc...
    Despite repeated Accidents..the road authorities are not waking up.....So many Precious lives are lost....

    This is very sad and very hard to digest that one more precious life of young man has been lost before blossoming.Now a days NH66 has become very notorious for such accidents due to widening of roads.Very scary,confused even to walk along the side of the road.Vehicles are coming from all the directions at zooming speed.No control,no traffic rule.Traffic system is in total mess.Vehicle owners,vehicle drivers are the king of the roads at the cost of poor pedestrians,bike riders without any fear.No use of airing our feelings.Nobody bothers.Concerned authorities sitting at office and enjoying such accidents.May God grant eternal peace to the young departed soul and bless the injured a speedy recovery.
