Udupi, Jul 9: Hat’s off to this Udupi man Vijay Kumar Hegde who has made a significant achievement in the field of tidal power.

Chairman of Susi Global Research Centre, Ambagilu, Udupi, B Vijay Kumar Hegde has secured a patent to produce electricity from sea waves. His 27-year-long research bore fruit when the union government controlled patent office give him a patent in just 3 years of its invention.

Speaking to reporters here on Saturday, Jul 8, Hegde said that the research cost him Rs 2.5 crore. Following this a company would be floated for implementation of the project.

Hegde further explained that the electricity is produced though the movement of floating ball on the sea waves. This technique, he said, will not result in emission of carbon, rise in temperature in the surrounding areas or environment pollution.

The project would provide relief from tsunami, floods, variations in temperature, earthquake and significantly control sea erosion.

To produce a mega watt of hydro electric power, Rs 4.5 crore is required while Rs 3 core is require to product the same using tidal power. Every a unit of hydro electric power will cost Rs 1.90 while tidal electricity will cost only 90 paisa, explained Hegde.
