Bantwal, Jul 9: Freedom-fighter, former member of the Karnataka legislative council and Bantwa taluk Congress' former president Manoor Vasudeva Kamath (80) passed away early Sunday morning at his residence in Tyagaraj Road here.

Said to have been keeping ill-health for the last four years, he was very active during his earlier years. He was an MLC between 1995 and 2001. During the British Raj he had been jailed along with his elder brother Krishnappa Kamath. He played an active role in the Lok Sabha elections in 1979 for the Udupi constituency - Bantwal assembly segment falls under Udupi Lok Sabha consituency - which gave a new direction to his political career.

Between 1985 and 2000 Kamath was president of the Bantwal block Congress. Besides being in poor health, he has also lost his wife some time ago. During the past five years, he had kept a low profile.
