Kundapur, Jul 10:  The police in swift action arrested two persons in connection with an attempt to loot the Hosangady branch of the Corporation Bank here, in the wee hours of Sunday July 9.

The thieves gained entry into the bank by bending the iron rods of the bank’s rear side windows. With the help of gas cutters, they made an attempt to break open one of the three doors of the strong room. In the meantime as the siren sounded, the thieves cut off the wires of the siren and fled the scene sensing trouble.

On hearing the siren, the locals informed the police, who acted immediately and were able to catch hold of two persons standing at the Siddhapur bus stand, holding gas cutters. It is suspected that more people are involved in the theft.

Bank manager Vithal Shetty has filed a complaint with the police stating that the thieves have stolen a keyboard and a calculator, and also cut off some cables connecting the computers.
