Oman foreign minister to vist India Tuesday

New Delhi, June 2 (IANS): Oman Foreign Minister Yousuf bin Alawi bin Abdullah will visit India on June 3, an external affairs ministry official said Monday.

The visit is to congratulate the new Indian government on behalf of Oman, the official added.

Abdullah had visited India in February on the invitation of then external affairs minister Salman Khurshid.

According to the official, India is expected to utilise Abdullah's visit to discuss bilateral trade.

Oman is an important trading partner of India in the Gulf region with bilateral trade exceeding $5.70 billion in 2013-14.

The Gulf nation is also home to nearly 720,000 expatriate Indians, many of whom are blue collar workers.
