Mangalore: Recommendations made to govt to preserve Kannada: Mukyamantri Chandru

Mangalore, Jun 2: "Kannada Development Authority (KDA) has sent 33 recommendations to the government which will help in preserving the Kannada language. Over the past six years, the KDA has taken measures to preserve Kannada, but unfortunately, people are more inclined towards foreign languages," said Mukyamantri Chandru, chairman of Kannada Development Authority.

Addressing a press meet in the DC's office here on Monday June 2 he said, "There are 28 Lok Sabha members in Karnataka, I would suggest that they take the oath in the regional (Kannada) language. The union government should take the initiative to protect the regional languages, and create a universal employment policy in the railway department. The railway staff should be appointed by giving importance to the region, by which commuters will be benefited."

He also said that the Kannada should be incorporated in computers to preserve the language.

He further said he has taken various initiative to preserve Kannada during his tenure. "As my term ends in June, a new chairman will be appointed. The new chairman should take forward department in a progressive way," he said.

"As per the report by J S Shivarudrappa and the committee headed by Chenaveera Kanavi, efforts will be made to ensure that the state anthem is sung in a uniform manner by all with a duration of one minute, without affecting its meaning," he added.

Kadri Navneeth Shetty released the book 'Mahabharata Mahapatragalu' edited by Chandrashekar Dhamle on the occasion.

    Kannada language can only be promoted ,..but not implemented here. Our state Karnataka is like a mini India where people of various states are residing and pursuing various careers and jobs. Any forcefully implementation of Kannada will be of immense discomfort especially in legal and court documentation. Ewen for any jobs nowadays of a sales girl English communication skills is a must to effect the sale !!

    I agree with Arun, its incorrect for someone to come and force kannada down our throats. "South Kanara" region has beautiful languages like Tulu, Konkani and Beary being spoken as a mother tongue, Its about time that people like M. CHandru LEARNS TO RESPECT OUR CULTURE AND LOCAL LANGUAGES.

    Tulu/English should be used for official purpose in South Kanara.

    Udupi, Mangalore should rightfully be renamed to either Tulu Nadu or Kudla and our city should retain its name as Mangalore instead of Manga-Looroo (translated - Town of monkeys, which we are not.)

    While we do respect Kannada and Kannada speaking people Bangaloreans must realize that Kannada speaking people in this region are minuscule in numbers and due priority should be given to local languages Tulu, Konkani and Beary.

    Tulu is a beautiful language which has not its due status as bangaloreans have tried to suppress the growth of our language due to their insecurity. In Bangalore, i have noticed that the localities often envy the smart, hardworking and enterprising people of Udupi-Mangalore Belt.

    Few days back i was travelling by one of the airlines from mangalore to mumbai and the staff(flt.purser)announced that we can communicate with the staff in English,Hindi,Marathi or Gujarati.Surprised to note that none of Karnatakas' languages were mentioned.Above all,most of the passengers were our Karnataka/mangaloreans.
    Is it the effect of Moditva?(Gujarat)

    As per the constitution a group of people speaking a language and having seperate culture are entitled to have seperate state
    2) Tulu and tulu Nadu culture will vanish if we do not have a seperate state. Tulu nadu has become kannada maya in the last 65 years. Tulu people do not speak in Tulu language official functions.
    3) Although tulunadu brings in 2nd highest income to Karnataka state hardly any of it spent on Tulu Nadu
    4) There are hardly any job opportunities in Tulu Nadu and hence people migrate to other places, there is more violance in Tulu Nadu and tulu Nadu people do not have their own identity.
    5)We people from Tulu nadu do not have a seperate identiy of our own. kannada cannot be our identity and kannada is not our language
    6) If kannadigas argue that seperate statehood for tulu nadu is unacceptable, they only have to go back to their history ask themselves why they seperated from tamil Nadu.
    7) Kodugu, Mangalore, Udupi, kasaragodu,Uttar kannada, Sakaleshpur should be added together to form Tulu Nadu
    8)Tulu should be made official language with encouragement for konkani, koorgi and byari bashe
    9)People should study in tulu & English and only our regional languages such as Sanskrit, koorgi, konkani and byari bashe languages and reject Kannada as it is not our language
    10)Tulu news paper should be published instead of kannada news papers
    11)All the people should be made aware of the need of a seperate state as it is our constitutional right and Identity
    12) All those who think that a seperate state is not needed unfortunately are not aware of few important factors and are not proud of our languages and culture
    13) having a seperate state is not against anybody as we will be still in India having our own state ( own identity ), own govt, Better governance
    14) There are 5 dravidian languages one of them is tulu and rest all have own states.

    We need our MOTHER TONG TULU FIRST then we know to respect Kannada HINDI .Don't come from other places & PRESSURIZE us in your language.WE will not let our local language down. DON'T get your politics in here...

    Chandru ji ..u being in kudla why cant you speak on preserving the native language born in the soil of kudla "tulu" and its preservation. It is dying faster then u r Kannada. Is tulu not the language of Karnataka?
