Dubai, June 2 (Khaleej Times): The Ministry of Labour (MOL) will amend the labour law to divide the private sector into several categories to better deal with them, especially in terms of working hours and weekly holiday, an Arabic daily has reported.
The categories are the financial sector, real estate, education, health, media, and tourism. Contracting, general trade and retail are also included.
The Arabic daily quoted sources as saying that the amendment would create more advantages for the sectors relied on to recruit Emiratis, led by the financial and education sectors. The real estate sector is expected to stick to a one-day weekly off while the others would enjoy two days. The working hours would be determined on the basis of needs, highlighting the fact that increasing work hours does not mean more productivity.
The decision comes after a recent dialogue between the MoL and sectors concerned, under the aegis of Shaikh Mansour bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Presidential Affairs who also serves as Chairman of the Ministerial Council for Services
