Mangalore, Jun 4: The city crime branch (CCB) police led by inspector Valentine D'Souza on Wednesday June 4 arrested three associates of underworld element Vicky Shetty at Prashantnagar Badavane, Derebail here.
The arrested are Deekshith Poojary (25) of Maroli, Sushil Kumar (28) of Mannagudde, and Puneet (21) of Derebail Konchady.
Deekshith, Sushil and others had gathered at Prashantnagar, Derebail on Wednesday afternnon and were planning to loot the house of a well-to-do man, and thereafter to murder Chandrahas Shetty alias Chandu, a resident of Kottara, and Bharatesh of Bokkapatna, both of whom are accused in the murder of rowdy Bejai Raja. The CCB police, based on credible information about this, raided the spot and arrest the three, and thus succeeded in preventing a theft and two murders.
The police seized a pistol, five bullets, a machete, a knife, a Chevrolet car, a two-wheeler, four mobile phones and a packet of chilli powder from the accused.
Among the accused, Deekshith, an aide of underworld element Vicky Shetty, is said to have masterminded the shooting attempt on hotelier Vijayendra Bhat in Ballalbagh last year. He is also accused in the kidnap and murder case of advocate Prakash, murder of John Pinto at Mannagudda, and a case related to possession of illegal arms.
Police said that in 2010, Sushil Kumar was accused of possessing illegal arms meant for killing several important persons as per the directions of underworld don Chhota Shakeel. He is an accused in some other cases too.
On the orders of police commissioner R Hitendra, the arrest operation was carried out under the guidance of DCP (law and order) Dr Jagadish and DCP (crime) Vishnuvardhan, by CCB inspector Valentine D'Souza, PSI Shyamsunder, and police personnel Shashidhar Shetty, Ganesh M P, Ganesh Kalladka, Venugopal, Chandrashekar, Rajendra Prasad, Sudhir Shetty, Abdul Jabbar, Mani M N, and Teja Kumar.
