Kundapur, Jun 5: In a surprising occurrence reported from Hattikudru in Kundapur taluk, a calf has started giving milk. The udder of the calf is filled with milk and it gives more than half a liter of milk at a time. The calf has aroused the curiosity of the locals.
A Jersey cow belonging to Muthu Poojary, resident of Haranamane of Hattikudru had given birth to a female calf in the afternoon on May 12 and both the cow and the calf were in good health.
However the udder of the calf was found to be filled with milk a week ago and when the family members started milking it out of curiosity, they got more than half a liter of milk.
Veterinary doctor Ganesh Aithal came to the house and examined the calf. He has sent the milk to the laboratory and the report is expected soon.
The family members who have been into dairy business for the last fourteen years say that such an incident has not occurred so far. The milk giving calf has made news in Hattikudru.
Meanwhile, another of their cows that is neither pregnant nor has delivered has also started giving milk. The family members who saw its udder had presumed that it was going to deliver. However, the doctor who examined it said that the cow was not pregnant.
“We are dairying for the last fourteen years and saw an incident such as this for the first time. We also have a shop to sell milk. The development has made us surprised and anxious. We are waiting for the laboratory report to know the exact reason for it”, said Yashodha Harenamana.
