119 acres of land identified for homeless: Sorake

Udupi, Jun 7: District incharge minister Vinay Kumar Sorake on Friday June 6 said that 119 acres of land had been identified for the homeless and there were 690 beneficiaries.

Addressing a press meet at the zilla panchayat office at Rajatadri, Sorake said that 181 families would be given title deeds.


"Around 642 people have not yet been benefited under housing schem. Notice will be issued and the list of beneficiaries will be finalized. There are 1,600 people who have the sites but no houses," he said.

He added, "There are 500 people who work in the fair price shops in villages. Ration cards have been distributed to 30 families."

On the Varahi project, he said that the tunnels had been constructed and the forest minister and the water resources minister had agreed to allot 81 and 129 hectares of land respectively.

"We have planned to provide houses for 150 families under the Rajiv Gandhi Vasati Nigama," said the minister.

He added, "The RTA has agreed to provide more buses for the school children. Measures to control the road accidents will be taken by appointing personnel at accident zones; stict action will be taken against law breakers."

He further said, "We have distributed 840 lac books and uniforms under the universal education department. Seeds and fertilizers will be distributed depending on the farmers’ demand. Precations will be taken to reduce the destruction caused by natural calamities."
