Mangalore: Academy seeks chair in Konkani at University

Mangalore, Jun 7: Roy Castelino, the president of Konkani Academy met Dr K Byrappa, the newly appointed chancellor of Mangalore University and submitted a written request for a Konkani chair in the university.

After receiving the request the chancellor said that he was pleased that the request for work on the language had come from the Konkani speaking people. 


He also said that they were prepared to work constructively for the language.

The Konkani chair in the university will enable research on the language, literature, culture, tradition, authors and works in a systematic and scientific manner. Discussions and essays on the subject can be held in national and international levels.

Academy registrar Dr Devdas Pai, university registrar professor P S Yadapadithaya, academy member Lawrence D' Souza and secretary of Konkani Prachar Sanchalan Vitori Karkal were present.
