Daijiworld Media Network - Mangalore (BG)

Mangalore, Jun 13: In yet another accident at Nantoor circle, two lorries laden with goods collided in the early hours of Friday June 13 morning.

The incident took place at around 3.45 am. One of the lorries was laden with fish food, it is said.

The incident took place when the lorry moving towards Kerala collided into the other lorry that was plying from Kaikamba to Kulur. Among the two, one carried Gujarat registration number.

No one was injured in the incident, however, one lorry was badly damaged while the other overturned. The traffic police booth also was uprooted.

It is said that the driver of one of the two lorries was drowsy and lost control of the vehicle.

Due to accident, the traffic was choked for sometime.

Some days back, a tipper lorry had collided with a truck at the same spot and two were injured.

A case is yet to be registered.

    ANUSHILU, Nanthur,
Road Humps is required near SHANTHI kIRAN,and 5 mtr.after the circle on the highway. One way is needed after old age ashram till the circle and also flyover is to be constructed so that people also can pass easily from four sides. Small children find very difficult to cross the road during busy hours.
National Highway Authorities may please make some arrangements in the interest of Public. Some Fruit
merchants are in the habit of throwing the spoiled fruits/wastages and some people are in the habbit of throwing the garbage on both sides of the highway. Please see that this can be avoided to keep your own city clean. National Highway Authorities may kindly look into the matter for construction of fly over and this only the solution so that the further such accidents can be avoided.
    Celine Pinto, Nanthur/USA.

VAN, Bajpe/Bahrain: Totally agree with you except the last sentence.. Why we should fell shame? Granting a signal light over there is our work? Even if we don't have signals and drive carefully in the controllable speed then majority of accidents can be avoided. only signals or speed breakers are not complete solutions. We mangaloreans fell shame only for driving recklessly. majority of youngsters drive without thinking about their life.

I would b surprised if Daijiworld does not report an accident, murder or rape every day. These have become daily occurrences.

It is said that at the very spot there was an accident earlier. In such a case it is expedient that the traffic department do some HOME WORK to see - analyze and set right any difficult traffic problem at the spot.

Time to think of constructing a bypass road outside the city to link the industrial zone (surathkal/panambur) to bangalore.
The chaos at nanthoor junction will never be solved even if you have two flyovers and a underpass. See the chaos at surathkal or kottar flyovers and you will see.
A highway is supposed to be a speedway. See the 80km limit boards even at nanthoor or along this road that passes through residential/hospital and school zones. This means that vehicles can speed upto 80km Isnt it?. It is not the fault of the truckers. It is the fault of those politicians with no long term vision who have allowed a peaceful road to be converted to a so called port connectivity road that allows heavy vehicles with hazardous cargo to cut through the city through a densely populated neighbourhood that has several schools and colleges. All the people who live /study/work or pass by are at great risk not only to accidents but also to the heavy dust/chemical/noise pollution.
A bypass road is the only low cost solution that is if you consider human lives valuable

If a case has to be registered, let it be on NHAI-IRCON. The Nantoor turn towards kaikamba has lot of water flooding with no proper channel for water, as a result huge potholes are formed at this turn every year. Officials concerned should be booked for negligence. DC should intervene before another tragedy takes place.

Nantoor circle is constructed to create confusion to people i suppose , it is a nightmare for the drivers at night. as the circle is constructed at a wrong place. its high time they remove that circle and construct either a big circle or flyovers connecting the main highways.
