Arab League rejects interference in Iraq

Cairo, June 15 (IANS): The Arab League (AL) Sunday strongly slammed the attacks committed by Jihadist-led militants in Iraq, but rejected any attempts of interference in the domestic affairs of the conflict-stricken country.

"AL denounces terrorist attacks that are being perpetrated by the group called 'Islamic State of Iraq and the Levant (ISIL)' against the Iraqi people," Xinhua quoted an AL statement as saying following an extraordinary meeting of permanent representatives in Cairo.

AL also slammed the recent terrorist attacks that "aim to destabilise Iraq and harm its unity".

    After the battle of Karbala when the Sunnis defeated the Shias over 1400 years ago, from then onwards they continued their dominance over them for all these centuries.

    The American invasion of Iraq knowingly or unknowingly overthrew the Sunni dominance and for the first time in Iraq’s bloody history, and centuries of conflict the Shias finally gained power.

    I am shocked and appalled that the Sunni dominated Arab League instead of rushing in to stop the blood bath is on record of saying that they do not want outside interference, and is giving their tacit support to the insurgents. If this insurgency is not checked it will lead to the deaths and destruction of the Shias and Christians, and is going to destabilize the region and eventually the world.

    It is deeply regrettable that all great powers, and all those who should be stopping this blood letting are now looking the other side and the consequences of this fall out are going to be terrible in the long term.
