New Delhi, Jul 19: The Indian Council of Agricultural Research has developed a vaccine against the much-dreaded bird flu. It has been developed at the High security Animal Disease Laboratory based in Bhopal.
"Viral diseases, such as the avian influenza, do not recognize boundaries, and the development of the indigenous vaccine will go a long way in tackling bird flu effectively," declared the ICAR Director Genral Manager Mangala Rai.
India has been an importer of this vaccine. The disease can always recur repeatedly and it has many variants. Hence, it requires further research, officers said.
Though hundreds of thousands of chicken were culled in India, the bird flu did not victimise humans, yet.
