Doha: Qalco beat Hanan to win floodlit cricket tourney

Doha, Jun 17: In the Qalco Floodlit Cricket Tournament 2014, Division I, hosts Qalco proved their superiority over Hanan XII, defeating them by 3 wickets. Fawad Rana, managing director of Qatar Lubricant Co (Qalco) specially flew from Dubai to attend the finals. He was not disappointed when his team Qalco ably led by skipper Shahid Iqbal Chowdhary managed to hold back the late challenge from Hanan XII.

Winning the toss, Qalco elected to field. This proved to be the right decision because up to the 6th over Hanan were struggling at 35 runs for the loss of 3 wickets. However Parvez hit a hurricane 23 runs with 3 sixes in 9 deliveries while Imran was outstanding with an explosive 49 runs off 16 deliveries with 7 sixes and a boundary. Hanan reached a fighting 126 runs for the loss of 7 wickets in the allotted 12 overs. captain Shahid had the dubious distinction of giving away 23 runs in 1 over.
Intikab and Muzamil bowled well to claim 1 wicket each while there were 5 run outs.


In reply, Qalco opener Aftab was caught by Sandeep off captain Khader in the very 1st delivery. Other opener Majeed was also out for 8 runs caught by wicket keeper Imran off Nasir. However Muzamil played a responsible innings of 26 runs not out with 3 sixes and a boundary while Budhika was outstanding scoring 31 runs off 10 deliveries with 4 sixes. They were assisted by Ifzal 15 runs in 10 deliveries with 3 sixes. Needing 14 runs of the last 2 overs, Imran bowled an excellent 11th over claiming 3 wickets but was hit by Budhika for a 6. Thus Qalco needed 7 runs from the last over Nazeer was hit for a 6 by Muzamil off the very 1st ball bowled but the next 2 balls were dots, Qalco still needed 1 run to win from 3 balls. However Muzamil hit a boundary on the next ball and Qalco lifted the Trophy.

Imran claimed 3 wickets, Khader, Nasir and Rauf took a wicket each.

Best All Rounder : Sandeep of Hanan Xii
Best Wicket Keeper : Ifzal of Qalco


At the well attended prize distribution ceremony the chief guest was Fawad Rana, managing director of Qatar Lubricants Co, and the guest of honour was Shahid Iqbal Chaudhary, director of operations, Qatar Lubricants Co. 

The organizers arranged complimentary refreshments, tea and lucky draw for all spectators.


QVC are the Champions

In the Division II of the Qalco Floodlit Cricket Tournament 2014, Qatar Vinyl Co (QVC) proved their supremacy when defeating Al Fardan by 7 wickets. Winning the toss Al Fardan elected to bat and were struggling losing wickets regularly and were only 49 runs for the loss of 8 wickets in 10 overs. However 11th over bowled by Shaman and 12th over bowled by Upul yielded 15 runs each and Al Fardan managed to reach a respectable 80 runs for the loss of 9 wickets in the allotted 12 overs. Shabaz was not out on 21 runs with 2 sixes while Abbas was not out on 12 runs with a six and Rashmi was run out for 11 runs. 

Tahir and Kamran claimed 2 wickets each while Abu Baker, Zaheer, Sultan and Faisal took a wicket each.

In reply QVC easily scored 86 runs for the loss of 4 wickets in 9.4 overs. Upul scored 13 runs with a six, Shaman 12 runs with 2 sixes and Ibrahim was not out on 11 runs. Subash was not out on 12 runs.

Abbas took two wickets while Elange took a wicket.
