Fake Facebook accounts - Woman files complaint

Bantwal, Jun 21: For the first time, a complaint under different sections of the Information Technology Act relating to cyber crimes, was registered in the town police station here, after a woman filed a formal complaint alleging that fake Facebook accounts have been opened by someone using her name, photo, and other personal details. 

She has alleged that opening of these accounts and posting details without her concurrence have undermined her dignity and self respect.

She has accused the miscreants of copying her photo from a studio in the town. She said her photo had been picked from a group photo there, and two separate Facebook accounts had been created.

The complainant said that she is mentally distressed because of these developments, and asked these accounts to be removed from the Internet with immediate effect. She also has requested the police to conduct investigate, find out the culprits behind this act, and take legal action against them.
