Bantwal, June 21: Vijayalaxmi, the state president of Asha Workers Association has urged U T Khader, minister of health and family
welfare to fulfill the promise of providing free mobiles to 33,000 workers from next month.
"The government said that since the days of training that it will provide mobiles and SIM's to the workers for sending urgent messages
regarding health services, but none of the workers have received the mobiles even after four years; may the promise not remain a
promise," she said.
"The minister of health had promised to pay Rs 2,500 per month adding Rs 1,000 to the Rs 1,500 paid by the union government. Though the government was formed a year ago, the amount has not yet reached the workers," she alleged.
"The survey identifying patients affected by contagious diseases was completed at the beginning of May and June. The government had
announced that fifty paise will be paid per house. As the amount was too less, the local medical officers have said that Rs 2 will be
paid per house to the workers. However no such payment is received by the workers," she continued.
"The government has provided no medical facility to the workers even though they are workers in the medical department," she concluded and hoped that the promises may not be false at least this time.
