Mangalore, Jun 21: The city crime branch police (CCB) on Saturday June 21 arrested two more associates of underworld dons Ravi Poojary and Kali Yogish near Kuntepadavu in Permude, Bajpe here.

Addressing a press meet here on Saturday, city police commissioner R Hitendra said that Subramanya alias Subbu (27) from Kolar, residing at Kuntepadavu, and Kiran alias Achyuta alias Swamy (30) from Marigudi, Urwa were arrested for threatening and plotting to kill two builders in the city.

Based on credible information that Subbu and Kiran were sketching a plot to kill builders in the city, the CCB police raided a shed at OMPL near Permude and arrested them. Two of their accomplices managed to escape.

The police seized three pistols (a 7.62mm and two 7.65mm), 17 bullets, Rs 1.50 lac in cash and two mobile phones from the accused. The total value of the seized items is Rs 7.53 lac, Hitendra said.

The police commissioner further said that the accused had received the cash by courier, but the source is the yet to be ascertained.

Among the accused, Subbu was arrested in connection with the murder of advocate Naushad Kashimji at Falnir in 2009, and was in judicial custody for a year.

In 2011, he was arrested along with another accused Taranath Kulal for making threat calls to wealthy persons in the city and collecting hafta on the directions of Ravi Poojary and Kali Yogish. Subbu and Taranath were caught with Rs 1 lac in cash and a case in this regard was filed in Mangalore North police station.

Also, in another case in Mulky, Ravi Poojary had demanded hafta from a real estate businessman who also runs a furniture business. When the businessman refused to give in to his demands, Subbu along with others, on the direction of Ravi Poojary, waylaid the businessman's car and tried to kidnap him. Subbu was arrested in the case and sent to judicial custody.

Prior to the Mulky case, he was arrested for plotting and financing the murder of criminal Bejai Raja near Falnir, on the directions of Ravi Poojary, and was in judicial custody for two years until he got bail on June 2 this month.

After getting out on bail, within 15 days he plotted the murder of two prominent builders in the city as per the directions of Ravi Poojary and Kali Yogish, and had made all arrangements to carry out the plan. The police raided the OMPL shed at the right time and were successful in thwarting their plans, said the commissioner, adding that two others who were with Subbu and Kiran escaped from the spot.

The other accused, Kiran alias Swamy alias Achyuta, had attempted to murder Nagesh Poojary near PVS in 2011, and in 2012, was arrested in connection with the Bejai Raja murder and sent to judicial custody. He got out on bail eight months ago.

The arrest operation was conducted as per the direction of city police commissioner R Hitendra, under the guidance of DCP (law and order) and Dr Jagadish, DCP (crime) Vishnuvardhan, and led by CCB inspector Valentine D'Souza. First of all we have to kick out such lawyers who is supporting and making money by accepting such cases.
Law is to protect against criminals. Now this is totally revers. Seems lawyers never respect on human life or they love their family. They love only wealth.

The news of CCB police foil plot to kill builders is welcome but in spite of having so many cases registered against them, how did they get bail and allowed them to roam Scot free? This is amazing. Why such people should be given bail or free them from the jail.Even after their crime is confirmed, proved, why they can not be hanged or award them with stringent punishment? That itself shows the weakness in our judicial system.O.K.fine one time they can be given a chance to mend their attitude, approach on humanitarian ground but repetition of the crime should be dealt seriously and should be punished severely.
