Kasargod, Jun 23: Police of Hosdurg police station in the district have filed a report with Mangalore Bar Association against a Mangalore-based woman lawyer residing in Urwa in the city. The police allege that this advocate had functioned as a mediator for child trafficking.

Investigating officer in the case, additional sub-inspector, K V Surendran, is learnt to have sent this report. The police had registered a case against the advocate concerned, relating to an incident in which a Kanhangad-based couple had sold their two children, accusing her of acting as a mediator to facilitate this deal.

Even after conducting searches, the police were unable to find out the whereabouts of the advocate in question. Therefore, the team has sent a report to the association, holding her guilty. Relating to the case in which a person named Sulaiman from Kanhangad Muriyanavi had sold his two children for money, Rasheed from Kolavayal, taxi driver from Kundapur, Basheer, and Moidu, working in a slaughterhouse near Iqbal high secondary school, were arrested earlier.

It is said that a 18-month-old female baby and baby boy, born to the second wife of Sulaiman, had been sold for Rs 1.75 lac and 1.5 lac respectively. The police, who have held the above lawyer guilty of conniving with the child traffickers, also claim to have knowledge about this lawyer's involvement with the sale of child at Nellikkunje Kappura in the district.

I hope and pray that Mangalore (culture) will not succumb to the grave influence of Kasargod for the days to come. God save our Kudla from these vultures.

It’s my feeling that the Advocate has not been gifted with any offspring of her own. She may not be aware of what motherly feelings are towards a child.
