Udupi, Jul 26: In another dowry harassment case, a housewife ended her life by jumping into the well near Brahmavar here on Tuesday July 25.

Poornima, wife of Jayanth, a resident of Kenjoor near Brahmavar committed suicide by jumping into the well leaving her two-year-old female baby.

Poornima had been married to Jayanth in 2003.  It is alleged that an amount of Rs 60,000 and 10 sovereign gold was given to the groom as dowry during the time of marriage.   However as days passed Jayanth and his mother Parvathi started demanding more dowry from Poornima.  It is also said that Jayanth also had extra-marital relation with another woman.

Unable to bear this mental torture Poornima when she came to her parental house repeatedly told her mother that she would commit suicide. On Tuesday she finally resorted to the act.

In this regard a case of dowry death has been registered against the accused Jayanth and Parvathi in Brahmavar police station as per the complaint filed by Radha, mother of the victim.
