Chamarajanagar: Engineer's suicide - two held

Chamarajanagar, Jun 27: The police arrested two persons, including a former president of gram panchayat, relating to the suicide of a junior engineer of the zilla panchayat here.
 
Second division clerk of Kollegal taluk’s Kuratti Hosur gram panchayat, D Vyramudi Manikyam,  and former Kuratti Hosur gram panchayat president and current GP member, Sardar, stand arrested in the case. The two were arrested from Velangur in Salem district of Tamil Nadu on the evening of Wednesday June 25, said superintendent of police. P Rajendra Prasad.

Manikyam and Sardar were arrested following a complaint from Mariswamy, father of the deceased junior engineer, Suresh, who committed suicide reportedly under pressure to pass bills illegally under National Rural Employment Guarantee scheme.  In his complaint, he has charged Manikyam, Sardar, and his wife, Saroja, of causing mental agony for Suresh by pressurizing him. Saroja, who has gone missing, will be arrested soon, the SP said.

It may be recalled that Suresh (26), a contract Junior Engineer with Chamarajanagar Zilla Panchayat, ended his life through self immolation on June 23, as reportedly he was unable to bear the mental agony of having to succumb to political pressure.
