Rain halts Paes, Mirza's matches at Wimbledon


London, June 28 (IANS): Heavy showers stopped play on Day 6 of Wimbledon as Leander Paes and Sania Mirza's respective second round matches were delayed.

Mexican-American men's doubles pair Santiago Gonzalez and Scott Lipsky were leading 2-1 in the first set on Court No.10 against fifth seeded Indo-Czech duo of Paes and Radek Stepanek when the skies opened up.

Indo-Zimbabwean fourth seeds Sania and Cara Black were leading 3-1 in their women's doubles match against Russian-Czech combine of Anastasia Pavlyuchenkova and Lucie Safarova when play was stopped.

Rohan Bopanna's both men's and mixed doubles matches were cancelled and postponed due to inclement weather.

Eighth seeds Bopanna and Pakistan's Aisam ul Haq Qureshi was supposed take on Canadian-American pair Vasek Pospisil and Jack Sock.

Seveth seed Bopanna, partnering Czech Andrea Hlavackova, was to take on local pair Colin Fleming and Jocelyn Rae in the mixed doubles. His matches will be scheduled later.
