Uruguay leaving with heads held high: Godin

Rio de Janeiro, June 29 (IANS/EFE): Uruguay defender Diego Godin expressed disappointment over the team's elimination from the FIFA World Cup but said they are leaving Brazil with their heads held high.

"I feel sad. We wanted to keep moving forward. We can leave with our heads held high. We have nothing to reproach ourselves for," the captain said, after losing 0-2 to Colombia in the Round of 16 match at the Maracana Stadium here Saturday, reports EFE.

The 28-year-old added that they tried to win but Colombia were simply the stronger team. Godin said the absence of teammate Luis Suarez affected them.

Suarez was suspended by FIFA for nine international matches after biting Italy defender Giorgio Chiellini during their 1-0 victory. He was also banned from participating in any football-related activity for four months. The sanction also included a fine of 100,000 Swiss francs.
