Suarez ban violates human rights: Lugano

Rio de Janeiro, June 29 (IANS/EFE): Uruguay captain Diego Lugano lashed out at the sanction issued by FIFA against teammate Luis Suarez, saying that it violates human rights.

After biting Italy defender Giorgio Chiellini during Uruguay’s 1-0 win, Suarez was suspended for nine international matches and banned from participating in any football-related activity for four months, reports EFE.

The 33-year-old defender, after losing 0-2 to Colombia in the Round of 16, said that Suarez’s absence affected them. Lugano added that the sanction complicated the life and the career of his friend Suarez and hurt them by getting eliminated from the World Cup.
