BJP alleges lobby behind mess over garbage in Bangalore

Bangalore, Jun 30: A garbage lobby involved in the management and transportation of garbage was behind the mess in the State Capital and was preventing the State Government to find a permanent solution to the garbage crisis in Bangalore, alleged the Opposition BJP members in the State Assembly on Monday.

BJP and JD(S) members Aravind Limbavali, S R Vishwanath, S Suresh Kumar, Ashwath Narayan, Ravi Subramanya (all BJP) and former Chief Minister and JD(S) floor leader H D Kumaraswamy raised the issue in the Legislative Assembly on Monday and urged the Government to find an alternative solution to end the garbage crisis the City has been facing for the last few years.

The opposition members demanded that the government must give incentives and land to entrepreneurs to establish plants to convert 4,000 tonnes of daily garbage produced by the City into power generation, compost and other fertilizers.

The city generates around 4,000 tonnes of garbage every day. Of this, around 1,800 tonnes was being sent to Mandur landfill.

With the communities living around the Mandur landfill urging the BBMP stop sending waste there and cause health problems to the people, the BBMP was forced to send waste to the landfills in Doddaballapur, SBingipura and Lakshmipura.

The opposition members said the crisis was purely the result of mismanagement and the BBMP dragging its feet on various waste management projects, including a waste to power project proposed to be set up at Subbarayanapalya on the outskirts of the city by a private company.

Kumaraswamy said the City contributed nearly 75 per cent of the revenue to the State exchequer but no effort has been made clear filed up garbage in residential arrears.

Congress member N AHarris demanded total ban on the use of plastic in the City.

Limbavali suggested to the government stop transporting garbage to Mandur landfill after six months, a promise made by the Government to residents of villages around Mandur.

The Congress member urged the Government to provide tax holidays and clear necessary approvals immediately to enable entrepreneurs to set up treatment plants at different parts of the City.

In the name of setting up the treatment plant, Limbavali said a private entrepreneur has mortgaged BBMP land and borrowed a loan from a bank to start private business.

Let BJP tell the state how many recycling plants did they build under their rule . The Garbage crisis was worse than now .Not a single recycling plant . They only made it on the paper but did not implement it . Though I am not a supporter of Congress , I totally agree CM Siddharam is doing a much better job than the previous government and I feel he will continue to do so . BJP Ministers are accusing the present government as if they made Karnataka like Singapore in their time of ruling the state .

Why these BJPians are blaming the Govt. for garbage crisis? Is it not the responsibility of BBMP run by BJP? So many scams in BBMP under BJP management.
Why BBMP under BJP can not collect the property tax? They have failed to collect even 50% of the tax due. What is the reason for this? Can the ever blaming BJP supporters here clarify?
BJP has stripped clean BBMP and demanding funds from the Govt. The Government has so many problems because of BBMP's mis-management.
Where ever BJP is in charge there will be chaos, looting, scams.
I hope they will be out of BBMP so that everything can go as it should be.

In the larger interest of the JANATHA , Time to legalize corruption ...
    Nationalize water bodies..and Garbage...
o that the govt can assign the navy and the army ti take over this segment to show the nation that we can manage and manage clean and well.
There is so much filth and clutter in the mind sof those concerned who look after their own good rather than the people at large , so time the govt state or Central to plunge into immediate action to rid this corrupt..miscreants..
check in Japan..Germany..USA ..how the garbage is collected ..transported .segregated ..recycled and value added and recycled so clean and so scientific ..why are Indians different..why should the politicians be so ineffective?
are the lobbies so strong and blackmail and twist the arms?

Time for army to take over to manage professionally...
people come first ..nation comes first and not few individuals...with transport or recycling crushers..NO.

Garbage crisis was no better under BJP. BBMP officials make hay while the sun shines .. be it ConGAS BJP or JD. Karnataka is the Head Quarters of corruption - right from the CM to the BMTC conductor - or a havaldar on the road or clerk in the state Govt office. So blame game or passing the buck is just a past time.
