Mangalore: City council finally approves bus stand at Pumpwell

Daijiworld Media Network – Mangalore (SP)

Mangalore, Jul 1: At the general session of the city corporation council held on Monday June 30, the corporators gave their nod for the construction of a new bus stand near Pumpwell in the city, the proposal for which was pending since several years.

The new bus stand is proposed to built in 7.23 acres of land acquired in 2008. City mayor, Mahabala Marla, informed that a sum of three crore rupees had been set aside for the bus stand out of Rs 100 crore being sanctioned by a special scheme of the government to encourage construction of bus stands. He also asked the concerned to prepare designs for a multi-storied building proposed to be built there.

The mayor added that steps to acquire additional land in the area will be taken in future as and when need for the same arises.

An exchange of heated words ensured between Congress and BJP corporators after BJP protested against the increase of house tax by 15 percent affected by the city corporation. The BJP members, who assembled in front of the mayor's chair, asked him to meet his earlier promise to bring down the tax. The mayor said that the corporation had drawn the attention of urban development department that the administrative officer, who was in charge of the corporation during election, had wrongfully affected the hike. 'We are yet to get a reply from the government,' he explained.

BJP corporators, Sudhir Shetty Kannur, Premananda Shetty, Tilak Raj, and others advised the city corporation to try to get government grant instead of raising Rs 160 crore loan from Asian Development Bank for its plan for uninterrupted supply of drinking water in the city limits. The mayor said that the water supply will be managed by the corporation instead of entrusting it to agencies, and hence water rates will not go up even after raising the loan.

Even old Hampankatta Bus Stand too should be included in the multi-storied building for Bus Stand proposals.
It has become an eye-sore in the heart of the city and the authority is not bothered.
The authority should consider making a building design as follows:
    1. Two levels of Under-ground car-parking
    2. Two levels of Commercial shop Cellar & Ground floors
    3. One level Bus-park first floor
    4. One Level Food Court Second floor
    and
The the balance permissible area above this as commercial office-space floors.
    Attention invited from:
The DC the Honorable mayor the MCC Commissioner all the leading Architects and the prominent Citizens forums of Mangalore.

What grant you people need for 24 hour water supply, just stop the leaks, water is enough. Near my house water is left open 24/7 there is no Tap on the pipe I tried to plug it but it's been removed water is flowing in full speed. Its near Don Bosco lane, behind gurudev lodge, inside A.K Mansion any one can come and see from our compound. One side the Sewage is flowing and one side water is flowing. Corporation people have come and taken a look, after my sister's complain, they have told them to plug it and clean the area. One man with a spay gun accompanied them to spray end of story. Mosquitoes are breeding freely, whiff of sewage is very pleasant for dieting. Only God's bank can help not World Bank.

Prior to becoming MLA MR. J R Lobo promised so many infrastructure projects in Mangalore. He wanted to make concrete roads in and around Mangalore city!!!! Where is he now? Now a days it is really dangerous to drive in Mangalore city because of pathetic conditions of roads and lack of awareness on traffic rules and regulation..

Good to note that the City Corporation is finally proceeding in uting the new bus stand project at Kankanady Pumpwell. The present KSRTC bus stand is at a very congested location. Moreover, this place at night has become a den for all illegal activities, with liquor and what so not freely selling and the drunk people spreading themselves on the pavements. This is really a shame for the City Corporation to allow such things which is also a bad sore for the tourist's eyes. It is high time that the City Corporation and the Police carry out raids at night at this spot and evict the drunken people sleeping on the pavements.

ha ha ha... you mean to say till now it was not sactioned at all. Very funny... there were a lot of statements by many people like Lobo and all on proceedings on this direction assuming the same was a proposed bus stand area or bulding and today it's sanctioned... any ways, till when this may go on..like land acquisition, building coming up, connecting roads, drainages, wastages... It may take several years when this project will be completed and it may be different govt, different officials , may be many intermediately till then... we are famous to run projects, slow and for many years , some times decades... we carry that credit. So, major thrill or excitement reading this news.
