Udupi, Jun 26: The DEMU (diesel multiple unit) train which currently is in operation between Mangalore and Bhatkal, has been extended to Madgaon with effect from July 1 this year.

As the train chugged into the station here, it was welcomed by office-bearers and members of Railway Yatri Sangha, Udupi along with BJP members here.

Though it is supposed to reach the station at 10.10 am on a regular basis, the train arrived at 10.45 am on Tuesday.

Welcoming the move to extend the train to Madgaon, R L Dias, president of Railway Yatri Sangha thanked Karwar regional officer Bindu who he said had responded positively to his appeal for extension and put in efforts to get it done.

Informing about the timings, he said train number 70105 will depart from Madgaon at 5 am and reach Bhatkal at 8.24 am, and Mangalore Central railway station at 12.05 pm. Train number 70106 will leave Mangalore Central at 2.55 pm and reach Bhatkal at 6.14 pm and Madgaon at 10.30 pm.

The trains will run on all days except Sundays.

A passenger travelling from Kundapur to Udupi will be charged Rs 10, Udupi to Mangalore Rs 18, and Kundapur to Mangalore Rs 30, Dias said.

Currently there are eight bogies, and depending on the demand, the number will be extended if required, he said.

Mattar Ratnakar Hegde, Sathish, Shyamprasad Kudva, Geeta Shet, Dinakar Shetty and others were present.

Ernakulam-Pune Express trains stoppage is getting cancelled soon according to some media reports. Even at Kundapura recent temporary halts for few trains has no surety of getting permanent.

Even if you try to book your tickets before 2 months there is no availability. There is enough demand but system doesn’t allow you to get tickets…

Since Konkan Railways inception Kundapura Station has station quota ticket for 2 trains only (Mathysaganda is 24 and Netravati 6). Surprisingly No Station Quota Ticket for other trains!!

According to my knowledge solution is there should be station quota ticket for all trains protect the interest of local travellers.

Most express trains take 5.45 hrs from Mangalore Junction ( Kankanady ) to Madgao. Only the Rajdhani takes 4 hrs because of 2 stops i.e. Udupi & Karwar. This DEMU train stops at the minutest of Railway stations. So what is the real excitement of this train ? Its a

Yes, you are right. As far as Rs 18 is concerned, there is no such thing as 18, because as per new guidelines all ticket fare goes into multiples of 5. As per fare table of Train 70105. the fare from Madgaon to Mangalore (320 KM) is 55. Kundapur to Udipi (22 KM) is 10. Udipi to Mangalore (68 KM) is 15 and Kundapur to Mangalore (100 KM) is 20. I think what is shown in the official fare table may be correct.

We need to make Subramanya Road station as TERMINAL station and extend all major express trains originating from Mlore to Subramanya Road. This ensures connectivity to Bantwal and Puttur people also. At present they are not connected to rest of India except Bangalore.

DVS is expected to announce Railway Terminal at Subramanya Road in his maiden budget next week.

And once Mangalore comes under SWR/KR, it is not easy for Mallus to pull our trains.
