Mangalore, Jul 1: "Journalism has witnessed rapid growth, as today, one can transmit any news, photos and other information to any distant place from any corner of the world. In today’s world, technology is playing a major role in media," said Sandhya Pai, managing editor of 'Taranga' and 'Tushara' magazines, commemorating 'Journalism Day' here on Tuesday July 1.

Adding more colour to the occasion, the Netravati Varna Jagruti painting exhibition was inaugurated by K Shiva Subramanya, editor of Hosadigantha.

Sandhya Pai further added, "One should be careful before publishing any sort of news. It is important to find out the past, reason and background of a person or a programme before publishing. If the news is wrong, the publication or a person in charge will face severe consequences. Indians never think before doing anything, while in return suffer at their own cost. If all the journalists join their hands together, they can make our country a heaven."

Subramanya, speaking to the media said, “A senior editor should correct the mistakes and guide their juniors. There is no real freedom of press. Journalism is becoming extinct at the hands of freedom of management. There are a few news agencies that are supporting a few politicians. Those who favour politicians, they write good things about them and those who do not, they keep waiting for any small chance to expose the politician. We have to stay away from politicians. That is when you can call yourself a clean person."

He also added, "Journalists working for less salary is not right. Some news agencies pay more when they earn more profit. It depends on the owner of the publications. Editor has the power to convince the management. Today’s youth are the future of our nation. They should know about the financial system of our country and as well as the state."

All the guests were given mementoes. Famous painters, journalists, press club president and others were also present.
