Mangalore: Mandd Sobhann singing contest 'Soad-4' on Daijiworld 24x7

Mangalore, Jul 2: Here's a golden opportunity for Konkani singers from all over to earn name and fame and showcase their talents to the world on television.

Mandd Sobhann with a view to encouraging young singing talents, is organizing a TV Konkani Singing Contest, titled ‘Soad-4’, on the newly-launched Daijiworld 24x7channel.

This was announced by Eric Ozario, gurkar, Mandd Sobhann, at a press meet here on Wednesday, July 2.

Any male or female within the group of 15 to 40 years is eligible to compete. Though this is a Konkani singing contest, the mother-tongue of the singer need not be Konkani. Hence, this contest is open-to-all, he said.

The winners (one male and one female) will be crowned - ‘Rai Kogull’ (King Nightingale) and ‘Rani Kogull’ (Queen Nightingale).

Apart from the opportunity of presenting their talents on TV, the winners and top 10 contestants will also get cash prizes totally amounting to Rs 2.5 lac.

"The shooting of the preliminary round is scheduled for Sunday, July 13 at 9 am at Kalaangann. There is no entry fee for the contest. We have already received several applications so far and we expect nearly a hundred participants this season," he added.

"In the first season of ‘Soad’, we had received nearly 120 applications, later it decreased to 90 and then to 60 in the subsequent seasons. This is after quite a long time that ‘Soad’ is back again. Every season so far, we received more applications from ladies," Ozario said.

Qualified singers and composers of Mangalore and Goa will be the judges and the entire programme will be telecaste on Daijiworld 24x7 channel, he said.

Louis J Pinto, president, Mandd Sobhann, Arun Raj Rodrigues, PRO, Mandd Sobhann and Oneil D’Souza, managing director, Daijiworld Television Pvt Ltd were present.

 

Rules

- This is Konkani singing (solo) contest on TV. Only Konkani songs are to be sung (of any dialect or composer). However, the mother tongue of the contestant need not necessarily be Konkani. Contestants from all relgions/communities are welcome to participate.

- The contest is open for females and males between the ages of 15 and 40 (born before July 13, 1999 and after July 13, 1974).

- Though the contest has only one centre, Mangalore, eligible contestants from surrounding districts and regions are also welcome to compete.

- The contest will be telecast on Daijiworld 24x7 channel and will be titled 'Soad-4'.

- The contestants, apart from getting an opportunity to shine on TV, will also be eligible to win the coveted title of 'Rani Kogull' and 'Rai Kogull'.

- Cash prized of Rs 2.5 lac are on offer, as follows:

'Rai Kogull' and 'Rani Kogull' - Rs 50,000 (each)
First runner-up (one male and one female) - Rs 25,000 (each)
Top 10 - Rs 10,000 (each)

Apart from the above, the winners will be provided professional training in singing and opportunities to sing for shops, TV programmes and albums.

- A panel of qualified musicians, singers and composers will judge the contest.

- The contest will be conducted in various rounds. All rounds will be recorded and telecast. Winners of each round will qualify for the next round. If, for some reason the person selected does not wish to continue, the next in line will be promoted in his/her place.

- The shooting of the preliminary round will take place on Sunday July 13 at 9 am, at Kalaangann. All contestants must come prepared in time for picking lots and briefing. Singers will be backed by organizers' musicians.

- The top ten round will be recorded with a live audience.

    Konkani music should have a few more ' rock n roll ' numbers. All their songs are basically slow and sleepy. Come on Eric. We have hope in you to make this drastic change.
