Mangalore: Exam failure - BSc student from Kerala commits suicide

Mangalore, Jul 2: In yet another incident of suicide, a student was found hanging in her hostel room at Kankanady here on Wednesday July 2.

The deceased, identified as Manjusha Nair (21), was from Kollam, Kerala.

Daughter of Madhusudan, Manjusha was a student of BSc (MLT) at a college in the city.

Manjusha had reportedly failed in microbiology subject in her second year BSc and had no hopes of clearing the supplementary exam too. Her friends said that she was suffering from chest pain too for which she was under medication, and this ailment too had depressed her.

As per police sources, Manjusha left behind a death note in which she stated that she was 'not a good daughter to her parents' and did not want to disappoint them by failing again, hence she was taking this extreme step.

She was found hanging in her room in the afternoon.

Kadri police led by T D Nagaraj arrived at the spot.

The body was shifted to Wenlock for post-mortem, after which it will be handed over to her family. Sources said that her parents are on their way to Mangalore.

Kadri police have registered a case.

    Am Really sorry to say this why the youngsters taking extreme steps and give pain to parents. Killing them self nothing is achievement or support to parents or to the nation.I pray god her soul RIP

    In my opinion,Good she committed suicide.... at least she saved her parents money from being wasted further. She does not fit to live in this world if she does not have the guts take any stress or failure in a good stride. She thought by committing suicide, she is going to clear the exams n become a topper. They never ever thought of mental trauma her parents would go thru for her stupid action. Can the parents not expect their children to do well in studies so that they can live a better life? I would never feel bad for her death!!!

    It is really very sad. Many may say suicide is not a solution but sometimes life is very harsh and it becomes so difficult that we see no alternative other than put an end to one's life. We never think of the consequences which our beloved ones may have to face.
    May her soul RIP. God give strength to her family during these difficult times.

    I was totally at lost and aghast after reading the news of BSc student from Kerala commits suicide for failed in microbiology subject in her second year BSc.I don't understand why she has taken extreme step just for failing.Fail or pass is different issue,that is not the end of the life but losing precious young life is the issue here.She might have thought herself that she may not be the good daughter to her parents but for parents there is no question of good or bad.All are equal and nobody understands the pain,agony of the parents when they lose like this or hear bad news about thier wards.Universe is wide and vast.There are umpteen number of opportunities and in fact failure is the stepping stone for the success.There are number of live examples in front of us.Why nowadays youths are coming to this stage and unwanted steps?God only knows.It is very sad and bad incident one can expect.Heartfelt condolence to the bereaved family and Pray God to grant her departed soul an eternal peace.I can't digest.Very sorry.

    The situation regarding suicides among students who have failed in the exams is turning very serious.

    It is time that the school authorities hold counseling sessions during the scholastic years and more particularly just before the exams to impress upon the youngsters that passing an examination is not everything and that apart they could also be convinced that failures are stepping stones to success.

    Very sad. Mangalore tops on suicide & crimes and it is increasing at alarming rate. Parents should educate these children, that death is not the solution to their failure/ problems. one need to face the situation boldly and accept whatever is the case. May her soul rest in peace.

    sad Many students are facing pressure at time of the exams. They are thinking that the failure in exams is the end of life. Parents and teachers are putting pressure on their head at some extent. I feel that there should be some counseling centre at each school. A good councilor can reduce the stress on students and make them ready for the exam with the good confidence. Also it is bad they are commit suicide because of failure in exams. Parents should support them to prepare for exams.

    Manjusha, you say you did not want to disappoint your parents. I am not sure if your parents told you that you would be disappointing them if you failed in exams. Now by committing suicide you have definitely disappointed and and caused pain for them? What a loss of precious life.

    Before taking these kind of extreme step ,Children must think the amount of pain & sacrifices Parents would have gone through to take care of their kids from child hood to the day these kids take drastic steps .., And also how this action of committing suicide will affect the parents..

    Yet another young life gone for fearing failure in studies. It is sad to even read these news, imagine plea of her parents after this. I am of the opinion that when Colleges have : " Orientation Courses " for students, you should have a similar type of Orientation to parents, which is more often not done, but is very important these days.
    It is sometimes parents' pressure on students / children to study certain course of study, even if the child is not interested. This practice has to be stopped lest we have few more young lives going away so soon !!
    We Parents must learn to give moral support to our young children / students along with teachers which I feel is lacking these days.

    Fail or pass, for parents children are precious, she said, don’t want to disappoint them, more than that she must thought after she gone what kind hell sorrow pain they has to pass through loosing her. is they can bare that? what is gain for them loosing precious child?

    Very Sad, Suicide is not a last remedy, the major problem of life is learning how to handle the Failure, Failure doesn't make you a Failure. Giving up, accepting your Failure, refusing to try again, yes it does...
