Mangalore, Jul 29: A theft attempt has been reported from Shri Dhoomavati Bhadrakali Temple at Kudroli during which a serpent idol has been damaged on Friday July 29.

The thieves who entered the temple after breaking open side door have tried to decamp with copper puja vessels.  While on their way back they have uprooted the serpent idol at the outside of the temple.  As a result the serpent idol has been damaged.

While the thieves damaged the serpent idol, the people from the neighbouring house woke up.  Having come to know this, thieves fled the place leaving behind the copper vessels and the serpent idol.

It is now suspected that thieves might have uprooted the serpent idol in order to steal it along with other copper vessels.  Since the idol has good market value, thieves might have tried to steal it.

The police have registered a case in this regard.  Special police security has been arranged around the temple to tackle any unwanted situation.
