Chennai, Jul 30: Tamil Nadu Chief Minister M Karunanidhi has expressed deep grief over the death of 16 construction workers from the state in a fire accident at Bahrain early this morning.
In an official relase, he said he was pained at the loss of lives.
He said it was reassuring that Union Minister of State for External Affairs E Ahamed was taking all steps to bring back the bodies of the victims to India.
Condoling the deaths, MDMK chief Vaiko, in a letter to Prime Minister Manmohan Singh, sought immediate steps to provide relief to the bereaved families.
"I request you to make arrangements to send the bodies of the victims to their homes in Tamil Nadu and also to obtain due compensation to the families of the deceased from the company which employed them," Vaiko said in his letter, a copy of which was made available to the media here.
