New Delhi, Jul 5 (DHNS): Former Union minister O Rajagopal is likely to be named the new governor of Karnataka.

Rajagopal’s name figures among the seven cleared by the Modi government and sent to the President, said official sources on Friday.

An announcement in this regard is expected to be made before the Budget Session of Parliament begins on Monday.

The previous Governor H R Bhardwaj completed his term on June 28. Tamil Nadu Governor K Rosaiah is holding additional charge of Karnataka till the appointment of a new governor.

Rajagopal, 84, was founder president of the BJP’s Kerala unit. He was also a minister of state in the Vajpayee government, handling several portfolios like railways, defence production, parliamentary affairs and law and justice.

Rajagopal lost the recent Lok Sabha poll against former Union minister Shashi Tharoor in Thiruvananthapuram.

Absolutely fabulous choice! An elderly statersman & impeccable gentleman, "Rajetta" as he is commonly known is a thorough noble person...Few remember him as the one serious BJP candidate in Thiruvananthapuram who gave Tharoor a run for his money in the last LS elections

We needed a good choice after Bharadwaj corrupted the Governors office in Bengaluru & Rajettan fits the bill like a glove! Kudos to him!!

We don't need MLCs in Assembly as well as we do not need any MPs in Rajya Sabha, specially those who have lost in elections. I also strongly believe that we should not have those as Governors who have lost elections.This should be applicable for all political parties. I am also not in favour of those who r above 70 years & specially those who r on wheel chairs, to continue in active politics. It is advisable for them to spend their time with their grand children. But tell me seriously who can implement our suggestions?

Also, The Modi Sarkar to make sure this proposed Governor is able to hear, speak and stand himself other wise also to arrange an unit of 10 para medical staff on a permanent basis at Raj Bahvan....
