Mangalore, Jul 7: Hameed (45) from Katipalla near Suratkal, who has two wives and 14 children, was taken into custody by Suratkal station house officer, M A Nataraj, on Sunday July 6. Allegedly, Hameed had raped a minor girl aged 14 repeatedly over a long period by threatening her.
The police have learnt that Hameed came close to a minor, who was a member of a family which used to live in a rented accommodation near Hameed's house in the past. Because of Hameed's obscene behaviour and unabashed attempts to become close to her at every opportunity, the family had shifted its residence to Kana near Suratkal.
It is said that the accused used to frequent this place too thereafter, making use of the opportunity provided by the absence of other family members during the day, lured the girl with the sweet talk of having been in love with her, and succeeded in persuading her to have sex with him. This went on for a long period, and it is learnt that Hameed had threatened the girl of murdering her if she divulged their relationship to others.
The girl started showing signs of acute depression over a period of time. The family members, after insistent questioning, came to know from her about Hameed's escapades. It is said that the accused had supplied her with some stock of birth control pills and the police have taken into possession the remaining pills from her. The girl filed a complaint with the police in this regard, on the basis of which she was referred for medical examination.
It is said that Hameed is a fish vendor by profession, and lives with one of the two wives in Katipalla, while the other wife is located at Kasargod. One of the daughter's of the accused was married off recently, it is gathered. A motor bike belonging to Hameed was confiscated by the police relating to the investigation. Hameed was produced in the court after a case was registered in Suratkal station.
The police have also come to know during preliminary investigation about the fact that the accused had also developed physical relationship with several married women, it is said.
