Dubai, Jul 8: Little Flowers of Dubai, the dedicated parish association of St Theresa of the Child Jesus Church of Mukamar has invited applications for ‘Desert Konkani Music Awards’ for the best music album, best lyricist, best male and female singers.

Artistes who resided in any of the Gulf countries during the release of the album and are based from South Canara and Udupi districts' Konkani speaking Christian denominations are eligible for the award. Each award consists of cash reward and mementoes.

The award will be presented to the deserving applicants/nominees after assessment by independent judges. The winner will be honoured in Dubai during Little Flowers Mukamar’s fourth anniversary on September 26 at India Club, Oud Metha Road, Dubai.

In a media release, president of the Little Flowers Mukamar association explained the reason behind this unique attempt and said that the idea of presenting the award is to identify the service to mother tongue Konkani by the artistes. "Being away from hometown and despite work load and family commitments they are utilizing God given gifts and talents, energy and passion to promote Konkani language as well as introducing new and budding artistes to music arena. Hence, now it’s the time to honor and encourage them for their services towards the fortunes of Konkani language."

Little Flowers of Mukamar has requested the all artistes who resided / are residing in any of the Gulf countries (GCC) to submit their profile based on the following prerequisites:

Desert / Gulf Konkani Music Awards

Rules

I. Any Konkani vocal music album (CD/ cassette/VCD/DVD etc) released between January 1, 2000 to June 30, 2014) is eligible for consideration.

II. Artistes belonging to South Canara and Udupi districts and from any of the Konkani speaking Christian denominations are eligible for consideration. During the release of the album they should be residing in any of the GCC countries.

III. Albums of remixed songs (if it is with only remixed songs), devotional songs, baila dance, instrumentals etc are not eligible for this contest.

IV. Awards categories are as follows:

- Best Music Album of Gulf: Music album with good quality lyrics, tunes, singing, music arrangement and recording will be considered for this Award. The album should contain not less than 5 songs, to be eligible.

- Best Male Singer of Gulf: No age bar. Even children below 15 can be considered as there is no separate award for children. Professional singers who sing regularly for films (other than Konkani films) will not be considered for the award.

- Best Female Singer of Gulf – Same As above

To be eligible for Best Male/ Female singer, the singer should have sung in the album for Gulf-based Konkani producers only and during release of the album he/she should have resided in any of the GCC countries.

- Best Lyricist of Gulf: One Song, with best lyrics will be chosen for the award. The lyricist should have been a resident of Gulf during the release of the album and penned lyrics for Gulf-based producers.

V. The award consists of cash reward and memento. Winners will be felicitated during Little Flowers Mukamar grand award ceremony which will be held on Friday, September 26.

The Selection Process

The selection process will begin once we receive applications / nominations. Only these applications / nominations will be considered for the Awards.

1. The application / nomination should compulsorily contain the following details: Name, full address, phone numbers, e-mail id of the person applying or of the person being nominated and also the person recommending, together with a recent coloured photograph of the nominee, along with full profile.

2. In case the album was produced by two or more persons their details should be submitted along with applications.

3. The applicant should be in residing in the Gulf during release of the album. The proof of the date of release of the album, media release, residing country visa stamp page or work permit copy should be submitted along with applications.

4. The applicant can submit any numbers of albums released during the above periods. But Award will be considered for only one album.

6. Only the producer of the albums are entitled to send the nominations for each category.

7. Final 3 nominees (selected by the jury) will be invited to the awards ceremony (if he resides in UAE) and honoured, and the final winner will be announced at the ceremony.

8. The jury: A jury consisting of very eminent musicians /composers /lyricists will thoroughly scrutinize the applications / nominations and will select the winners.

9. Any other grievances regarding the award can be reported and represented only by the album producer to the award managing executive committee in writing. The decision of the award managing executive committee will be final and binding to all.

10. The five original sets of the album in the original cover and format (CD/cassette/DVD/VCD/etc) should be submitted along with the applications.

11. The last date to receive applications / nominations (with full required details) is July 20.

About Little Flowers Mukamar

Little Flowers Mukamar is an energetic parish organization, popular in the UAE for its bunch of young, adult talents and unique creativity. This organization is dedicated especially to St Theresa of the Child Jesus church, Mukamar, Shirva deanery, Udupi diocese. Over the past four years, this organization has been providing financial assistance to the poor and needy for various causes like education to financially backward children, house construction, medical aid and numerous social, cultural and humanitarian causes. LFM’s key responsibility area is to support development projects of the parish and the community with voluntary services.

At its inaugural ceremony, LFM honoured the founder presidents of the Shirva deanary associations (varado) in the UAE. It also honoured long serving Catholic domestic helpers with ‘Kutmaa Saangaathi’ Puroskor' (Domestic caretaker award) during the first anniversary celebrations held in 2011. In the second year celebration in 2012, The 'Saadhan Puroskar award’ was given to three of the UAE-based Mangalorean individual Catholic parish church associations. In June 2014, LKM supported Swabhiman Awards for differently-abled achievers instituted by Daijiworld Weekly.
