Udupi, Aug 5: The local Hindu organizations led by Hindu Jagarana Vedike, laid siege to Kota police station on Friday August 4, for filing cases on the innocent in the communal clashes that rocked Kota-Padukere area a couple of months ago.
Raghavendra of Hindu Jagaran Vedike said that police had filed cases on innocent persons and on those who were not present during the clash. More than 300 youth lay siege to the Kota police station on Friday morning and demanded the police to withdraw cases against these persons.
Later, Brahmavar circle inspector Dinesh Kumar arrived and took control of the situation. He assured the protestors that if the said persons are proved to be innocent, then all cases against them will be withdrawn. ZP member Kota Srinivas Poojary, Brahmavar BJP Yuva Morcha secretary Karkada Raju Poojary, Vijay Kumar Shetty, Dinesh Ganiga and Raju Marakala were also present on the occasion.
Latest reports said that a peace meeting has been organized at 3 pm on August 5 which will be attended by both communities and Brahmavar MLA Jayaprakash Hegde, deputy commissioner Ponnuraj and ZP and taluk panchayat members.
