Puttur, Aug 6: Sumatindra Raghavendra Nadig a senior Kannada poet, story writer, translator and a critic has been nominated for the Niranjana Award constituted by Dr Shivram Karant Study Centre of Vivekananda College Puttur.
The award for the year 2006 will be given to Nadig in recognition of his contributions to Kannada literature.
S Raghavendra Nadig
Born in Kalasa of Chikmaglur district, Nadig did his post graduation in English from Mysore University and Temple University Philadelphia, USA.
He has translated many writings from English and Bengali and has also received the Karnataka Sahitya Academy award in 1977, 1998 and 1999, Rajyotsava Award, Aryabhata Award and also Vishweshwaraiah Sahitya Award.
Kuhogeeta, Nataraja, Kanda, Kamanabillu, Pachabhutagalu, Dampatyageeta, Tamsahe Padyagalu, Nimma Prema Kumaria Jataka and Kappu Devathe have been translated into Sanskrit, English, Bengali, Urdu, Tamil, Telegu, Assamese, Malayalam, Punjabi and Marati.
