Bhadrak, Aug 6: After a legal battle that lasted over three years, 28-year-old Nazma Biwi and her 33-year-old husband Sheikh Sher Mohammed, the Muslim couple from Orissa's Bhadrak area, have finally been united.

Three years ago, Sher Mohammed had uttered talaq thrice in an inebriated condition, but retracted his words the next day.

However, the couple was forced to stay apart by the local Muslim clergy.

SC judgement

In a landmark judgement on April 21 this year, the Supreme Court asked the Orissa government to ensure that the couple stays together.

On Friday afternoon, Nazma and Sher Mohammed along with their four children moved into a house taken on a monthly rent of Rs 1,000 by the district administration.

"Thanks to the Supreme Court judgment, we have been united after three years of struggle and separation. Now that we and our children have moved into this house, I have reasons to feel happy and grateful," said Nazma.

The couple has also been provided round-the-clock police protection.
