Mangalore, Jul 13: The Moodbidri police on Saturday July 12 arrested a man who was allegedly troubling girls by calling them on their mobile phones and indulging in vulgar talk over the past one year.

The accused, identified as Mohsin (42), is a resident of Mohalla in Moodbidri. He is a married man with children.

It is said that he was first caught by the locals who beat him up and then handed him over to the police.

Though many complaints had come to the police station about the calls, the police found it difficult to trace the caller. The number from which the women were receiving calls was traced to Haveri, but this number rejected calls from unknown numbers.

Recently, a woman who had parked her two-wheeler near the post office at Moodbidri found a note with a phone number on it, with instructions to call. The lady then approached the police with the help of her husband. The number was the same from which other women too had received calls.

The police then set a trap for the accused. They asked the woman to call the man on the given number and ask him to meet her at Swaraj Maidan. The woman did as told, and on Saturday, when the man came at the appointed time, the locals caught him before handing him over to the police.

It is learnt that when women went to shops to recharge their mobile currencies, Mohsin would stealthily note down the numbers and later misuse them.
