Mangalore, Jul 15: "The situation in government offices in DK district is such that no work is done if we do not bribe the officials. The Forum for Justice has raised various such issues and the DC of Mangalore has also taken action against in this regard," said Dayananth Kotian, the convener of justice for forum.
He was addressing the media at the press club here on Tuesday July 15.
"In no sub-registrar's office across the district will any registration work be carried out without a bribe. The Forum for Justice is ever ready to fight against such menace in society, but in order to do so successfully, cooperation is essential from not just the members of the Forum but the public as well," he said.
"If any official demands bribe, one must not give in, but place a complaint to Forum for Justice at its office in Bharath Building at Hampankatta," he added.
"Based on a complaint filed by us, the DC called a meeting of all the sub-registrars, district registrars and the Forum office-bearers on May 6. As per the request of the Forum, the DC has ordered for certain norms to be followed by the officials. He personally called the registrars and conducted investigations in the presence of the Forum office-bearers on July 10."
He added, "As precautionary measures, the sub-registrar and district registrar have been ordered to install CCTV cameras in their offices, also to install boards urging the public to file complaints against the officers who ask for bribes. The officers and staff have to declare the amount with them at the entry and exit points to the office," he concluded.
Conveners Victor D’Silva, Santosh Kumar Kadri, Clifford Crasta and Jagrathi Samiti convener Vasudeva Boloor were present.
