Bangalore: J R Lobo demands development of Pilikula as tourist destination

Bangalore, Jul 17: Congress MLA from Mangalore J R Lobo on Wednesday urged the State Government to take steps to develop the Dr K Shivaram Karanth Biological Park at Pilikula a tourist destination in the State.

Lobo, who was speaking on the budgetary demands of the Forest Department in the Legislative Assembly, said the State Government has to take measures to develop the park and provide facilities of international standards.

The Mangalore MLA asked the State to take up the issue with the Centre on relaxing curbs imposed under the Coastal Regulation Zone (CRZ) rules in order to develop beach tourism in the state.

Adventure and beach tourism along the state’s coastline has not developed because of CRZ restrictions that prohibit activities up to 200 to 250 metres from the coast due to high tides, Lobo said.

He also demanded increase green cover in coastal districts, conducting survey of CRZ to build houses to the fishermen, reduce man-animal conflict and check sea erosion.
Lobo said the social forestry was launched in the early 1980s in the State but has not increased the forest cover.

The scheme was launched with the aid of the World Bank but had not progressed much, he said.
He urged Forest MinisterRamananthRai to take steps for setting up a body to protect tanks located in urban areas.

Senior Congress member Ramesh Kumar suggested to the Government to plant fruit-bearing saplings on roadsides across the State.

"A lot of fruit bearing plants were raised during the rule of Maharajas. Now the department plants only non-fruit bearing plants," he said.

Instead of planting eucalyptus and acacia, Kumar told the Forest Department to raise fruit bearing plants of mango, jackfruit, jamun and neem along the highways which would not only increase the green cover but also ensure availability of fruits to human beings and birds.

Supporting the former Assembly speaker’s stand, JD(S) member B BNingaiah said jamun would help in preventing diabetes.

Noting that the roadside afforestation has taken up on 15,000 km, he saidthe State has 4,000 km of national highways, 21,000 km of state highways and 38,000 km of district major roads. But a lot of trees have been uprooted for road widening works.

Dear Mr Lobo. You are the MLA for South Mangalore so does Pilikula come within your constituency?
If not, pls do not interfere in that matter and let the MLA from that area look after it.Or is it becoz when you were Bossman of Pilikula as a bureaucrat you decided that regardless you would do more n more for the place. AS our MLA we need you to look after your area (Kadri Park)which is still a disgrace we need you to look after the roads, the traffic, the irresponsible bus drivers and the lax MCC/RTO personnel.
Or are you trying one upmanship over the recently nominsted MLC??

Adventure and beach tourism along the state’s coastline and promoting Tourism Industry sounds good but who will guarantee the safety and security of tourists (local or foreign) in Mangalore beaches, when rapists and culture polices are always on the watch to kidnap/manhandle those who relax at parks and beach sides ?

Mr Shanker, with all respect to you, I would like to correct you. Did you ever visit Mr Lobo's office when he is in Mangalore. If not please visit and see for yourself the rush of public at his Office coming with all sorts of problems like difficulty at Govt. offices, drainage problem, road problems etc etc. Also listen to how quickly he calls up the concerned Govt. Official and takes them to task if they have deliberately not done their duty.

See how quickly the problems are resolved. Never before MLA's have done such work in Mangalore. May be there is no publicity and announcements of the achievement of Lobo. He is the most knowledgeable and capable MLA Mangalore has ever seen. Please verify what I have said.

JR Lobo has woken up now with a selfish motive to overtake his rival Ivan D'Souza of Mangalore Congress.

JR Lobo demanded one thing in the past- "Fresh probe into church attacks". Did something happen?

AAP is the only hope. Because it has a key concept "SWARAJ". jai hind

Many Parts of the world are banking on tourism Industry.
God made our region suitable for tourism Industry.
People's knowledge on many languages is an added advantage.
Law and order improvement caused by some fanatics irrespective of caste factors is a challenge before Govt.

If implemented a concept change, we not only can solve our city problems but national and global situation also can be improved.
A simple concept change in vehicles move can give several wonderful solutions.
The opportunity is to save fuel, eliminate pollutions and reduce costs, reduction in oil import bills and fuel subsidies, surplus balance (instead of CAD), availability of huge funds for infrastructure and development, job creation, improvement in health and education, reduction of poverty, peaceful society, stable economy and clean environment, journey towards becoming a developed nation as we dreamt off.
If we can offload and feel free, why to pay, carry and suffer?

This same Loam earlier had visited Kadri park and made many assurances to develop the park and facilities. Since then nothing has done! The park and amenities are in pathetic conditions.

This same Lobam had visited to inspect a road leading to Maroli from the highway between the stretch of Pumpwell and Nanthoor which is in a very bad shape. He had assured people of effected area (which was published in daijidubai)that he will ensure with MCC that the road will be reconditioned but this has not happened yet.

Lobam only talks big. My advice to Lobam is do talk what you really can and do not try to fool people through your false assurance and media. You can not fool people so easily any more nowadays and they always ask for the accountability as I did here.

    Lobo Saab,

Kindly look into other pressing demands of fellow citizens of our great city like decent foot paths, rain water discharge trenches, garbage collections, mosquito eradication, proper basic health care facilities in government hospitals etc (to name few)
We have been informed that there will be revamp of markets in the city, but till that revamp happens there is no maintenance to existing facilities? Tourists will come only infrastructure is developed
