Mangalore: John Monteiro's website turns six, offers new blog

Mangalore, Jul 17: "Welcometoreason.com website, now marking its sixth anniversary, is adding a new dimension with the launch of 'Monty’s Cocktails' blog on the site. The blog will give readers access to archives written by me," said John B Monteiro, noted author and journalist who is also the website’s promoter and editor.

He was addressing a press meet here on Thursday, July 17.

The new masthead of the website's homepage was unveiled by Titus Noronha of Rahul Advertisers, to mark the sixth anniversary of the website.

Addressing the gathering, Titus Noronha said, "John Monteiro started a website at the age of 70 when people would have been happy to curl up in a state of inactivity. He has not only sustained this no-income, no-profit website for six years but has now added a new blog offering the whole bunch of his writings, including his new book on corruption published in the USA last year.

"I welcome this new initiative and hope that readers will take advantage by accessing and freely downloading his broad spectrum of writings. I also urge readers to participate in the ongoing debates on the website on current issues and abiding values by responding to the topical essays offered on the website," he said.

Explaining the new dimension of the website and the blog, John B Monteiro said, "The core of the blog would be my book, 'Corruption - India’s Painful Crawl to Lokpal', published in USA, priced at $21.50 and available for online ordering from Amazon and other websites. The book is now available on the blog for reading as well as free download. The blog's archives has embedded hundreds of topical essays offered for discussion on the website during the past six years, with new ones added on a regular basis."

Besides, there are sections on Tulunada personalities aged over 100 years under 'Surviving Centurions', profiles of achievers over the age 70 years under 'Super Seniors', and on benefits of laughter and how to run laughter clubs, supported by a 12-minute video of a specially staged laughter club session under 'Laughter Plaza'. There are also articles on several facts of Tulunadu written over a period of 40 years under 'Cocktail Plaza'. All these can be freely downloaded and used, he said.

John B Monteiro is also celebrating his 76th birthday on July 17.

    Belated birthday greetings to you, John.
    I have read almost all your articles in the Daijiworld and enjoyed them, occasionally adding a few comments here and there.
    Since you have so much knowledge of the history and traditions, including the most recent one on the ancient temple, I am wondering if you have any information about the history of SANYASI GUDDE (off Balmatta Road), in a lowly hut (as it then was in late 20s and early 30s) the second house on the top of the hill which was where I was born. I have been trying in vain to get that information; perhaps you can put me in touch with some historical society in Mangalore. To my recollection, from stories I heard those days, the sages had their colony on this hill, and our lowly hut was the last one of their hermitage.
    Thank you. I hope to fill the gap in my journey through life.

    Thank you all respondents for the nice things said about the website and the new blog. The blog is being loaded and it may take a while to complete the work considering the massive contents.
    I take this opportunity to thank Daijiworld for being very supportive from the inception of the site. I request readers/ viewers to spread the word and reclaim readers I lost from malicious hacking many times.

    John Monteiro is indeed a bold writer and it is a pleasure to go through his writings. He more than deserves high praise.

    The six year event coincided with his 76th. birthday. I join scores of people in wishing this versatile gentleman A VERY HAPPY BIRTHDAY.

    May he live until he hits a century and even beyond and may he continue his good work and be an inspiration to many of his readers and admirers.
