Udupi, Aug 10: On the very first day of the checking of ore-laden lorries, RTA has seized overloaded lorries.

After activists of some local organizations had stopped ore-laden trucks at Kallianpur-Santhekatte on Tuesday August 8, RTA had decided to weigh the lorries at a private weigh-bridge near here.  This resulted in seizing nearly 90% of overloaded lorries.  All these lorries were later made to stop at Adi Udupi ground.

When contacted RTO Omkareshwari said that chargesheet was filed on overloaded lorries following orders issued by commissioner of transport authority.  Checking will go on 24 hours of the day and lorries will not be allowed to move further unless they unload excess ore, she added.
