Mangalore, Jul 25: The woman who created a scene and allegedly slapped a traffic policewoman, the SI of Kadri traffic police, at Hampankatta on Thursday July 24 was arrested again on Friday July 25.

The woman has been identified as Kinjal Gandhi, wife of Ashok Shenoy of Kavoor.

Kinjal is basically from Gujarat. She is a lecturer in a college at Payannur, Kerala, said police sources.

She has been booked under sections 323 (voluntarily causing hurt), 332 (voluntarily causing hurt to deter public servant from doing duty), 504 (intentional insult with intent to provoke breach of the peace), and 506 (criminal intimidation) of the IPC.

Kinjal, who was riding a two-wheeler without wearing helmet, had been stopped by a lady trafficwoman following a minor accident with an Omni. Kinjal protested on the spot and in a fit of rage, allegedly slapped the traffic policewoman. She was later taken away to the police station, from where she managed to 'escape'.

Mangalore, Jul 24: Chaos erupted at Hampankatta here on Thursday July 24 evening after a lady allegedly slapped a traffic policewoman.

It is said that the lady was riding her two-wheeler towards Falnir, when an Omni car moving from the Central railway station side collided with her vehicle.

A policewoman, said to be SI of Kadri traffic police, who witnessed the minor accident came towards them and after enquiring, reportedly let the Omni car move on while making the lady stay back. 

The lady grew angry at this, and an argument sparked off between her and the traffic policewoman. The lady insisted that it was the Omni driver's fault, but the policewoman reportedly refused to listen. It is said that the lady was not wearing helmet and that was main reason she was stopped. Finally, in a fit of anger, the lady allegedly slapped the policewoman.

Seeing this, a crowd immediately gathered at the spot. More policewomen also arrived and tried to drag away the lady. The crowd however, came to her support and protested against the police.

The lady refused to leave the spot, claiming that she had been meted out injustice. She demanded to know from the traffic policewoman why she was held back while the Omni driver was let off.

As the crowd grew in support of the lady and the situation threatened to go out of hand, the police resorted resorted to mild lathi charge and dispersed the mob.

The woman was finally taken to the police station. Sources said that she 'escaped' from the police station after a case was filed. 

Speaking to daijiworld, the traffic police said that the lady was told to stay back as she was not wearing helmet while riding, and that the policewoman who stopped her was just doing her duty as usual.

    It appears, Policeman may not have judged the incident properly. On a professional level, I would hold both of them until I am sure where the fault is and then take action on the person who is at fault.
    On the subject Lecturer slapping Policeman, all I can say she was wrong, she has no right to put her hands on a Law enforcement official. Being a Lecturer and a public figure, what she did is a shame. I would hand cuff her and put her into cell and present her in court with no bail request.

Just for stopping her for not wearing helmet doesnt look like a logical reason from an educated lady. There must be something very bad that happened. Please cover both side of the story.
    I wish you put some videos of police handling the rowdies and miscreants and anti social elements like this. I donot remember seeing any such vidoes. Please do publish.

    I do not support this Lady. Slapping a Police Officer or Police personnel on duty is wrong. If there was a problem faced by the Lady in question, there was a mechanism to deal with this matter and not slapping a Police Official.

    I do not support the Lady who has been accused and arrogant. She could have paid Rs. 100/- fine and walked out for not wearing the helmet for which she was stopped and not creating scene at the spot. Police have installed Cameras at important junctions in Mangalore and one at the Hampankatta junction too. Many of the crimes have been solved by these close circuit network which is at the Police Commissioners Office Control Room. Even any person crossing a Zebra line is clearly visible.

    In any case under the Indian Penal Code or Evidence Act, it is the duty of the person who files the case or make accusation to prove that the accused is guilty. In this case, the State, represented by the Public Prosecutor on behalf of the Police has to to produce the evidence and details and prove the case. Till the case is proved, she is only accused. The question of passing Judgement on Conviction will be done by the Judge once the case is proved beyond doubt. This is the Law.

    Let us wait till the court decides the matter. Jai Hind.

    Dear Ajay Lobo,I am really sorry if my coments hurted anyone.I support this lady if she is fighting in justice .I was refereeing to Daiji news where this lady slaped police which is wrong whether in Kundapura and Mangalore.All police are not corrupt .May be this lady done this out of anger .Police have their owm mechanism to deal these type of slapping .They will take action if this lady does not agrre if she has done wrong.People like you just encourage these wrong practice which will not help our society or this lady in particular.     I don't have any grudge on any police. But I know how police works in Mangalore. They catch many innocents and let free the criminals. Coming back to this lady, she slapped the police. This is wrong. She should not have slapped the police. But question is why did she slap? She is not mad to slap anybody without any reason. Police might have abused her and she definitely get angry. Simply nobody slaps anyone. This is my point. Why people who witnessed this incident supported the lady? Why police resorted to lati charge on those people? There are many unanswered questions which police need to answer. Getting justice, I know very well how judiciary works in India.

    Police are handling the lady as if she is a hardcore criminal (refer video).This is not the way to treat an educated lady like this for the offense she committed. The conversation between the cop and the lady will reveal the correct reason for her slapping the cop .

    Whatever the situation is the guardians of law have to be respected. No one has any right to slap a police officer on duty. Leave aside an officer a good citizen will not dare touch even a police constable.

    It is strange that a professional teacher should have resorted to such an act of assaulting a government officer on duty.

    The law will now take its own course and the concerned lady will pay for her impatience.

    why the official let omini off the hook who was the real culprit in this case which aggregated the whole scenario.
    Police officer let off one traffic rule for the Omini and caught hold of the another rule for the helmet.

    There is a clear deviation of the traffic law or favarisim from the police office to Omini therefore police officer should be booked as per the traffic law. However, slapping was not the answer is uncivilized act from the so called mangalorean civilized people.

    The lady being a teacher by profession should not have slapped the Lady Police. Its this teachers fault for not wearing helmet. If she doesn't follow rules and slap the traffic police on duty it speak volumes. Such being the case how the students will behave if teacher acts like a rowdy. Yes as many people said she should have been polite maintained her mannerisms and said sorry. If someone say sorry it will make wonders.

    There is a beautiful word, which has become common in many languages S O R R Y and if expressed decently can mean a lot to the other person. Mrs.Gandhi, may be in the heat of the moment (or due to high blood pressure hyper-tension which her physical looks reflect) might have slapped (over-reacted) in the given situation by slapping the lady police-woman. If she herself was the Police-lady and some other person had to slap her how she may have felt….? Anyway a simple and polite word SORRY with a handshake would have been able to resolve the issue then and there itself or even the following day.
    Yes…..the Police personnel are human beings and can make any mistake like anyone of us., but generalizing all police as corrupt is not fair. Tomorrow if there is a robbery in our house, or an accident in which we ourselves or our close relations or friends are involved, don’t we always first thing call the same police for help. Like army personnel they also sacrifice their life to protect us.
    Besides during major public shows, especially attended by gigantic crowds like those that attended election meetings of Narender Modi or Rahul Gandhi or even the late Pope’s visit in 1986, the police always rise to the occasion and manage the crowds, traffic etc. so magnificently……..but then no one says a word of appreciation to the same police who do not get high salaries like their counterparts in many other countries get.
    I do hope Mrs.Ga ndhi will think over, have a change of heart, apologise and shake hands and enjoy the fruits of a peaceful solution to the issue.

    why the official let omni off the hook but was the real culprit in this case which aggregated the whole scenario. Police officer let off one traffic rule for the Omni and caught hold of the another rule for the helmet. There is a clear deviation of the traffic law or favoritism from the police office to Omni for which slapping was not the answer but who has to say sorry to whom dear mr. lobo.

    Police will not catch all of them and if entirely accomplished our jails will not be sufficient.

    Scores of people have died without helmets and we see the news daily deaths of two wheeler's.

    One's this woman broke the law then she should have tried to come out from the scene quickly.

    If she had agreed that she had broken the Law in a nice humble way the officer would have et her go.....But no she had to argue and then slap the officer even though she was guilty .

    Knowing these police personnel, slapping these government officials is not a crime. We all know how police department works. Many commentators here are pointing finger at this women and they support the police women. Some people are over smart saying she should have complained to higher officials. We all know how the judiciary works in India. Judiciary is worst in India. General public are made to suffer by these government servants and politicians and influential people. People should unite and teach a lessor to this arrogant police and poli politicians. These police and politicians often forget that they are servants of general public and they get their salary from public and 99% of these people are corrupt and criminals and hence they don't need any sympathy. If the police women was law abiding citizen they why did she leave omni driver? Is it because she thought this women in question don't fight back? I agree that two wheelers should wear helmet for their own safety. But the way police women acted in this case is just pathetic.     Knowing the attitude of police in Karnataka, it is not wrong to slap a police. Question is what made this lady to slap? Police woman must have used abusive language against this women.     everything is ok, but slapping a duty officer, not acceptable. She can be filed with this simple mistake , can be called as a crime. What ever it is she should have taken it up with senior officers or filed a case if she is so much capable. But slapping a duty police officer, can not be accepted. Yes, many times we see this kind of incidents happens and police people bias on some parties. We are in such a society and unless something major change is introduced, these things will keep happening. But that doesn't mean we can start taking law in hand and start hitting these officers. We need to pay for the consequences.

    I own a car and I have been involved in two accidents where the other party was at fault. The cops usually watch and wait making up their mind like vultures swooping on a prey. They descend on the best pick. A bus hit my car,
    we both went to Suratkal police station, I got a quotation from Mandovi motors, genuine quote for six thousand rupees, the cop got a settlement for 2000 rs, 2000 he pocketed from the bus owner, I still have these papers relating to this case. The cop finally told me to go to court for arguing against the settlement. You see how good these cops are.

    As the report clearly states that the cop reportedly refused to listen to the lady in question, and letting the Omni go ........., it gives chance for suspicion that the cop was irresponsible by not finding whose fault it was in the first place, in spite of the pleas made by the woman two wheel driver.

    One cannot deny the fact that the cop was right in holding her for not wearing a helmet, while it is common knowledge that most of the time people ride their two wheelers without wearing a helmet, right under the nose of these traffic cops!!

    I strongly feel that the cop has enraged the woman rider for not investigating the matter in the first place, and at the same time making an excuse for holding her for not wearing a helmet.

    First of all Incident wouldn't have happened if the Omini didn't collide. Secondly, If the driving lady had worn the helmet there wouldn't have been any issue. If the Traffic Lady Police Made the Omini to stop, Then Traffic would have Blocked and more public would have been into trouble. The Police has right to stop the lady for not wearing helmet while driving. But, If the intentions of stopping the vehicle is to "bribe" then it's the cops mistake. The driving Lady being angry is obvious because every male driver drives so cunningly and escapes any traffic even in a little available space (as on road everyone is so selfish and makes their own way)., The defending ladies who try to make effort in making way somehow put their efforts and will be frustrated. The lady should have accepted the fact that she is not wearing a Helmet and so she has to be polite and respectful to the Police. Also, She should have controlled her anger and the Police might have left her in few minutes. Now, the consequences she is facing is much higher than those minutes which she would have controlled herself with Police in patience. Life teaches us lessons and this is one of them.

    Police need training in diffusing angry & violent people by good and courteous behavior. If the lady was without a helmet why was she not question about in the beginning itself and told about her mistake taken down her details and released instead of making her stay. It does not take more then 5 minutes.May be Omni driver was some one known to the police hence not stopped "Mamul" . Now the police defend them selves are stating she was with out a helmet.

    Is there proof that she was not wearing or not?
    Any CC TV footage from nearby cameras?
    Are the police above LAW?

    If a two wheeler rider without helmet is seriously injured by a rash car driver hitting her scooter, as in this case the car driver will be allowed to go and the victim will be held responsible and allow her to die on the spot.
    Though strange, this can happen in India.

    There is parking for car but no footpath for pedestrians. As per International safety rules (ILO) roads should have two paths for pedestrians " Access and egress. Where is the mangalore south mla busy planting trees in other areas other than his own. When he won election he said he make mangalore green and beautiful. Kadri park has become bad to worse after that.

    No footpaths on concrete roads.

    He said that he will look into a enquiry in church attack to find out root cause .

    Mr Lobo don't pay attention only to Perrerias or Noronha's they were not the only ones who elected you.

    Police need training to deal with public in courteous way .

    People don't give 2 hoots for traffic rules, no parking zones, signposts etc at M'lore.

    Just fine, fine & fine like Bangalore using blackberry. Let them pay or go to court to fight back.

    How dare this lady slap police woman ? Just book a case 'n cancell her license. Let her walk to the court till case is settled. Then only her temper will cool down.

    We need strict officers in M'lore to implement discipline & get rid of "chalta hai" attitude.

    One lane of all concrete roads are used for parking. Do we built these roads for parking or moving vehicles ? Police should fine all cars on daily basis for this offence. Let the businesses suffer for no parking buildings & let tenants move. Then only builders understand the importance of parking.

    How municipality gives license for hotels, banks, bar & restaurants etc without checking parking available ? It is public inconvenience and disturbance for other shop owners also. Is municipality alive ?

    We need police towing vehicles, tyre lockers etc to control idiots on wheels. Just fine every offence. It is the only language to control lawlessness.

    letting off the omni driver is the duty of the lady cop or holding back a person who is not wearing a helmet is her duty .... in case she wants to do her duty let her do it properly .... but not tying to take sides with the bigger vehicle.... the only thing the cops know to do is resort to lathi charge when the public is supporting the right thing so that next time they can do all the rubbish possible and no public will support the right
