Udupi: Bus-Bolero collision at Yermal - One dead, three injured

Udupi, Aug 1: One person died and three others were injured in a ghastly accident at Yermal here on Friday August 1.

The deceased has been identified as Sampath Shetty (38), owner of a poultry farm in Padubidri. The identities of the injured persons are yet to be ascertained.

The accident occured when a Mangalore Express bus collided head-on with a Bolero. Two persons in the bus were also injured, police said.

The impact of the accident was such that Bolero was completely smashed.

Due to the accident, traffic on the highway was affected for over an hour.

Padubidri police arrived at the spot and registered a case.

    Govt.should make this route as a only government buses should fly. No private operators should be allowed here to fly and stop all lobby .best example is preset mangalore-Kasargod route?unfournetly we speak when accidents happens next day we forget all ?some seriouse action should be taken ?or else one day........

    THE PLIGHT OF DRIVING ON THE HIGHWAY DUE TO NEGLIGENT BUS /LORRIES WHO NEVER CARE FOR TWO WHEELER ROAD USERS MOST OF THE TIMES WHICH WE EXPERIENCE MIRACULOUS ESCAPE TOO.
    WHY THE DISTRICT ADMN. NOT SERIOUS ON HIGHWAY TRAFFIC RULES BY DEPUTING MUFTI TRAFFIC POLICE AND SEVERE PENALTIES SO AS TO BE ALERT WHILE DRIVING ESPECIALLY IN RAINY DAYS.
    A COMMON MAN CAN SEE HOW THE HIGHWAY TRAFFIC RULES MISUSED IN FRONT OF TRAFFIC POLICE ITSELF IRRESPECTIVE OF TWO / THREE / FOUR WHEELERS OR BUS STOPS.

    This was happened due to negligence of Bolero driver. There is a proper space to take U turn. The Bolero driver was taking U turn with neglecting the bus, which was on other side. Bus driver haven't got enough time n space to avoid this crash.

    Counting the no. of fatal accidents taking place almost daily, this stretch, Kundapur-Mangalore, could be one of the worst in India!! So much for DK and its development!!

    Most of the people in M'lore, afford to buy lavish vehicles. But (sorry to say) don't have decency to drive,respect for other's,patience while driving.In simple words 'basic discipline'.

    Reader, you seem to be having a soft spot for the bus,it doesn't matter anymore whether the bolero was on the right right side or wrong.

    Almost all the buses are wrong always and kill more people than any other vehicle. Wake up n see things around you. Instant justice is the need of the hour

    There are two reasons for this kind ghastly accidents. One reason just to save little diesel or petrol they drive at wrong direction. 2nd reason is that rashness of express but drivers who think they fly the bus and not driving. Nobody can point out this because private transport lobby is so strong that RTO cant touch them. 3rd thing is ignorance of traffic law. 4th reason is lack of patience while driving. Regret to say everyday we loose precious lives.

    Please don't ask government to make strict traffic rules please. As it is applied only to two wheelers & cars.These buses are above law as they give money below. Ask any police you know whether each & every buses don't pay"mamuli" of 500 per month to every station they pass. They will never be checked. If you want your life to be safe, be ultra careful.

    Heartfelt sympathy to all family members. I know deceased Sampath Shetty who is very kind person, good and responsible in shouldering his entire family. He is also brother of my colleague Mr. Devin Shetty. I really cannot believe his death. May God Bless his soul and grant eternal bliss. May God grant courage to his family members bear the loss.

    I feel very sad when I see this things happen. I feel the road between Mangalore and Udupi needs to be repaired soon and work has to completed soon Otherwise many lives will be lost Police must take strict action against over-speeding.

    The bus drivers are solely to be blamed. They do not have speed control. From the 1st stop they start on time then go slowly till the next bus chases to pickup passengers. Then accelerate to a speed of 80- 100 km per hour to reach final destination. The speed controller is the need of the hour. So many lives have lost so far, hope the present govt will take the issue in hand and save future lives.

    I feel, it is not right to politicize issues like this. Be it Congress or BJP or any Govt, such incidents have happened and might continue to happen. Bus lobby is s strong that no Govt, no Dist Administration could touch it. If any DC tried implementing speed governors, he was always being transferred before he was due for one..!! Drivers are crazy many a times and negligence from their side is major reason, secondly punishment to erring drivers is not so harsh, so they will continue to drive rashly & their bosses will continue to feed the "babus" with " Good Will "..!!
    There innocent lives are gone..!!

    All buses should be installed speed governors set at maximum 80 km/hour, but Congress government will not do it as it is controlled by bus lobby.They are so powerful that they did not allow a daily direct train service to Bangalore from Mangalore since last 35 years !!!.Also as Sanjay said they are not ruled by traffic rules.

    Kaushik, mangalore. Every one knows highway is under repair & there are many spots where there is only one way. One cannot be blamed for wrong side, where there is no double road. Private buses are not ruled by traffic rules, they are governed by "time" rule, police, rto just can't control them. Have you ever witnessed a rto/police stopping a bus? There are hundreds of instances they stopping two wheelers.

    evry1 knws that express drivers are experienced and if police stops d bus then people shouts "bhega pole marre thada apund". if bus goes slow that time people again shouts "vora bhega gidpale marre thada apund".

    2 wheelers are made compulsory to wear a helmet what about buses? any speed limit for them ? the word express itself is becoming dangerous day by day with no. of vehicles increasing on the road and the space occupied by buses is almost 75% of the road in many cases.

    Don't worry, the bus owners pay "mamuli" to law enforcers. The bus will be freed within evening & tomorrow the same driver will drive probably the same bus, after its public service.

    There is space for U turn in the center of highway divider. The Bolero was taking sudden U turn without looking to other side.
