Puttur, Aug 21: Puttur deanery youth council in association with ICYM Uppinangady unit organized a day-long training on Konkani language and culture at Uppinangady on Sunday August 20. 

Diocesan ICYM director Fr Elias presided over the inaugural function.  Puttur deanery assistant youth director Fr Francis Rosario inaugurated the training programme.  Uppinangady parish priest Fr John Vas, ICYM central committee president Jaison Suares Taccode, former diocesan ICYM animator Sr Suma were the chief guests on the occasion.

Uppinangady ICYM president Prakash Pais, Puttur deanery ICYM president Urban D’Souza, secretary Smitha D'Souza were also present on the dais.
 
Noted Konkani writer Lilly Miranda spoke on richness of Konkani language and heritage. She gave examples of vovio (sung during marriages), dulpodam, huminneo, gumta podam and explained traditional marriage systems etc.

Santhosh D'Souza delivered a lecture on history of Konkani language and people.  Well-known novelist, journalist Dolphy Cascia spoke at length on Konkani journalism.

 More than 75 youth from Puttur deanery attended the training programme of the training sessions. A series of such programmes on Konkani language and culture is being arranged all over the diocese by ICYM to bring about awareness about mother tongue among youth.

 Urban D'Souza welcomed the gathering and Smitha D'Souza proposed vote of thanks. Avitha Menezes compered the programme.
