Mangalore, Aug 22: Minister for Fisheries and Endowment and in-charge minister for the DK district B Nagaraj Shetty on Tuesday, Aug 22 said that plans are on to provide berthing facilities for boats in Bengre under the third phase of development. The government will take up development of the third phase of construction of jetties at Mangalore and Malpe fisheries ports, he added.

Shetty was speaking  after inaugurating the modern hygienic fish handling centre  constructed in association with Metro Cash and Carry, fish auction hall and other development works at South Wharf in Old Port here on Monday

A sum of Rs 30 crore had been earmarked for the development of Mangalore fisheries harbour, he added.

Hinting at development of ports, Shetty said that many ports in the state will be developed shortly. Ports at Hejmady and Ullal will be developed with government-public participation, he said.

Metro Cash and Carry India director-food buying, Michael Keelan, department of and fisheries director Veerappa Gowda were present on the occasion.
