Udupi, Aug 4: Karnataka Madhyama Academy, Udupi District Varta and Public Information Department, and District Working Journalists’ Association, have together organized a two-day workshop and seminar on ‘Modern Media—Today’s Views and Challenges of Future’. The event was inaugurated on Saturday August 2 by district-in-charge minister Vinay Kumar Sorake at Raveendrakala Auditorium, MGM College, Udupi.
He said, “Udupi city is known for creative activities, knowledge generation, and cultural uniqueness, next to Bangalore. Communication as mass media has been focusing on human interest issues. We can find many instances of their honesty as seen in recent issues.” He further said that he was trying to provide special privileges to media workers.
Sandhya Pai , soon after the inauguration of the photography exhibition, said, “Media is a powerful means of communication. We are the kingmakers and we do think of building a strong nation.”
On the first day, Arakere Jayaram, senior journalist, Bangalore, conducted a seminar on ‘Media and Laws’. He took up issues of defamation, contempt of court, right to privacy, sting operation, and usages in electronic media.
Dr T C Poornima delivered the talk on ‘News Channels: Social Cultural Impact”. She said that due to tough competition in the media, it was losing its real values. “So, the media is working as a mirror not a creator. It should flow and needs to be valued and evaluated,” she added.
Gopinathan , a famous retired photographer of ‘The Hindu’, proposed his view on humanity values in art news photography by showing his own clips.
S R Aradhya, chief editor, ‘Udaya News’, Bangalore, delivered the seminar on ‘Reporting and Challenges in News Channels’ and added that being a media person he should know the value of news.
Jayakara Suvarna, District Working Journalists’ Association, presided over the programme.
